Metronidazole Help Please

I was taking metronidazole for a week, 3 pills a day 500 mg I believe for an infection or whatever it was in my stomach. I was in the ER and had a catscan with that barium liquid. They saw I had a hiatal hernia and swollen lymph nodes in my stomach. I've been off the metronidazole for about 2 days now and I still feel weird, mainly coughing, white stuff on tongue and spider like veins in my mouth. I also had diarrhea today which was why I started it in first place. So I'm very worried that maybe whatever I was treating came back or is it still side effects of the medication? I recently turned 18 so this is really scaring and upsetting me. I was never this sick before.

Hello, Chris! How are you? I'm sorry about what you've been experiencing and that you're so scared.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic, so it can cause diarrhea as a side effect, as reported by the FDA. It can also cause nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

As to the white tongue and mouth oddities, it is possible that you've developed oral thrush, IE a yeast infection, which antibiotics can also cause. You should have it checked out, to be sure and discover the proper treatment.

Yes recently yesterday I started having really watery diarrhea and it was green sometimes and yellow others. I stopped taking metronidazole 6 days ago and I'm worried what's causing this? I have no fever or anything only thing I have is an annoying cause since I took the metronidazole and now the diarrhea even though I'm not eating and only drinking water it isn't stopping and I'm worried what could be causing this I can't eat and my stomach hurts a lot. I recently went to the dr yesterday to and it started after coming home so now I'm really worried and getting depressed from this.
