Metoprolol And Possible Side Effects

..been diagnosed w/ MVP recently and the doctor gave me instructions that I should take 1/2 tab of Metoprolol 50 mg twice a day. What would be the effect if I don't follow the doctor's instructions or I would not take it at all. I'm afraid of its side effects.

I was also on 50mg (1/2 a tab twice a day) and after 7 days or so I started to itch all over my torso & under & down arms as well. I wondered what was causing the itch and was thinking of everything else except the new medication, Metoprolol tartrate I was on. Anyway I suddenly thought of the sequence of events and thought that it was this new medication which I really did not need to have had in the first place. My BP was way down, & I had a slight irregular heart beat, which I believe had been there for years, & as it turns caused by a small leak in my aortic valve, - not serious enough to worry unduly it seems. I just wish the itchiness would go away, as I ceased taking the drug quite some time ago, when I realised that was the cause of the itchiness.

Am still itching and it is now 9 or 10 weeks since I stopped taking Metopolol Tartrate. I am still on anti-histamines. I hope the itching will go away soon.

27th Sept '18. Am still itching, it is now nearly 3 months, am still on antihistamines which help a little. My Doctor said last visit that it could take 6 months to go away. I think she is just covering her back as she said initially it would be 3 months.
I don't know what else to do, it is very uncomfortable.
