Metoprolol 25 Mg.dosage For 13 Years
UpdatedI was prescribed Metoprolol 13 years ago for a high/fast pulse rate,i was also prescribed Lisinopril 20 mg. for high blood pressure at the same time. Now that i have been diagnosed with Raynauds Syndrome,my rheumatologist has suggested replacing Met0prolol with Nifedipine XL 30 mg.My primary care doctor would not allow me to go off of Metoprolol without consulting a cardioligist. Cardioligist said decrease dosage to 12 1/2 mg.a day for 10 days and then stop taking it and give my body a break before starting Nifedipine XL.I also take an 81 mg aspirin every day and 4 Aleve 220 mg.for osteoarthritis every day.I need to have surgery on my nose so i had to go off of aspirin and Aleve and just take acetaminophen. All of this is happening at the same time;is Metoprolol withdrawal as well as not being on aspirin and Aleve causing my BP and pulse rate to be high?

It's most likely the withdrawal from the Metoprolol, when you stop taking it, it is known to cause a rebound effect, which can result in elevated blood pressure and heart rate.

It is very unusual for a cardiologist to tell you to give your body a break for a few days, because they know that can easily result in these types of issues. Normally, you stop one medication and immediately start another, or taper up on the new one, while tapering down off of the old one.
When do you start the Nifedipine?

Cardio Dr.thought i might not need Nifedipine XL and suggested that i see how my body reacted without Metroprolol, just cleanse system for awhile.I am using a Holter monitor for 24 hrs.tech will read it on Mon.I am stressed because nasal surgery is scheduled Tues.and this will be my first surgery other than colonscopy,I'm sure that surgery will be cancelled if vitals are not within range or if monitor shows any issues. Thanks for replying,i will research those med details.
