I take Metoprolol Succ ER 100 Mg Tab and would like to know if taking Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg Tab two times a day is equal to or the same as the 100er

I don't believe that taking two 50mg Metoprolol pills at different times would be the same as taking one 100mg extended release Metoprolol. The reason being, the 50mg pills will still act as immediate release and won't stay in your system throughout the day like the extended release variety.

my husband has arrythimia and has been treated for 10 years with the same doctor. He was on metoprol 50mg in the morning and 50mg at night. He has complained of dizziness and always being tired for along time. He was outside cleaning gutters and moving a ladder and became very very dizzy and sweating to the point where his clothes were soaked. came in the house no one was home sat down and became stiff. called someone to take him to his heart doctor. Heart doctor gave an ekg and then reduced metoprolol in half from 100 mg a day to 50 mg a day. 25 in morning 25 at night. He still was experiencing dizziness like he was going to pass out at times. then he was raking leaves and pulling a tarp full of leafs and felt spinning and heart racing sat on ground and said to mering me in the house. went in the house and he sat on the couch and went into cardiac arrest. thank god my daughter and i were home or he would have died. brought back by emts with a difibulator. Did cutting metoprolol in half cause cardiac arrest. I cant seem to find an answer to this. I would assume that when you have an attack with sweating heart racing and dizziness out of control that the doctor would have ordered him to the emergency room for extensive tests. the doctor suggested inplantation of a difibulator but got second opinion and had ablation done. which he did not give as a choose.
