I have heart palpitation, and have had them for the past week. I have also had sinus and a cough for the past week. Went to urgent care, and have bronchitis. I was prescribed the Methylprednisolone and an antibiotic. I am nervous about taking the steroid when I am already having heart palpitations. I didn't even think about mentioning it when I went in.

Hello, Mar! How are you?

Did they check your heart and blood pressure, when you went to urgent care?

If so, there is most likely nothing to worry about, they'd not have prescribed it, if they had reason to be concerned.

You also need to understand that in most cases heart palpitations aren't anything to worry about. It's just an unusual awareness of your heartbeat, it doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong with your heart. For instance, if you're congested and it's putting pressure on your ears, then that could cause it, because the pressure can make you unusually aware of the throbbing of your heart.

Generally, unless you have other symptoms, such as dizziness, fainting, low or high blood pressure, they are nothing to worry about.

Have you consulted your regular doctor?

The FDA classifies this medication as a steroid and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and acne.
