Methylin (generic Ritalin) For Narcolepsy

I have narcolepsy and have been on 20mg of Methylin (generic Ritalin) 3 times a day for some time now. I didn't seem as effective as it was at first, so I did some research and asked my Dr about the amphetamine class of meds. He prescribed Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine). I was awake but not motivated to actually do anything. I needed a nap everyday. I asked to go back on the Ritalin. He agreed but seemed surprised that Methylin worked better for me than dextroamphetamine. Shortly after that I asked for my dose to be increased.

Remember, I'm on 20mg 3 times a day. I asked to increase it to 4 times a day (just in the office - I didn't have an appointment at the time. Am I going to have a really difficult time finding a Dr that will make this increase? I've read there are narcoleptics on much higher doses than I'm requesting. I have one 2 year old and two 1 year olds. My days OUTLAST the length of time the Methylin lasts. Some days are 5am to midnight - going non-stop! This is ridiculously difficult with narcolepsy & not enough meds.

You could also try Ritalin LA (Long-Acting) 30 mg pills which is a slow release as opposed to a quick release pill. Ask your doctor if you could get an Rx for 3 of those a day, hopefully it would keep you going.
