Methadone's Are Disappearing
UpdatedI agree with most that methadone is a great drug for those with pain, or past addicts, but its also the worst drug you can become dependent upon because of the 6 month detox time which I can tell you first hand you would rather die by a slide of razor blades. I started taking methadone on the streets after I got hooked on oxys after a serious back injury and multiple surgeries. I then moved to North Carolina and started at a Clinic, yr later moved back to Florida and went to a doctor who prescribed me them at the time 40mg pills were still on the market, then the DEA took them off and the only one you could get were 10mg pills, so I went from getting 100 40mg to 400 10mg which sounds insane. Since I have worked my way down to only 180 10mg a month. Most people get methadone for pain because its a cheap drug to fill. This last month I went to get mine filled and found they have almost tripled in price. I asked why and they said the DEA is restricting how many can be made, and how many a Pharmacy can carry. I live on $668 a month and have to pay $400 to doctors and meds because medicaid changed their rules and stopped paying for my visits and meds. To anyone who is on them I say start getting your dose down fast because they will be gone soon, I am not sure if they will have them when I go this month.

They aren't disappearing, they are just going under much stricter control. To be honest, the laws that limit how much can be manufactured, how much a pharmacy can order and carry, as well as how many can be prescribed to anyone per month, have been in place for awhile now, but were not being enforced.
The DEA and FDA are trying to get things back under control by insisting that pharmacies start enforcing the laws and regulations.

Additionally, anyone taking such medications for long-term chronic pain treatment will be forced to eventually start seeing a pain management specialist. General practitioners and surgeons will only be allowed to prescribe them for short-term use, such as after someone has had surgery or been in an accident and injured.
