Methadone For Pain Management (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am taking 60mg of methadone a day for pain management, given to me by a rheumatologist in Pa. We are moving to NJ. Will it be hard to find a doctor in NJ that will prescribe it for me there? I have been on it for about 6 years. I also take Percocet 10/325 for breakthrough pain.

I am not sure how hard or easy it will be to find someone, some doctors are more understanding and liberal than others.
The best advice I can give you is to make sure you take a complete copy of your medical records from your current doctor with you. By doing this you make sure they get the full records of all current tests and prescribing information and you also ensure that they get all of the information and nothing is lost or left out during a records transfer.

Another thing you might want to do is check with your insurance provider and see if they can recommend a doctor in NJ, or check with the social workers at a hospital in your new area and see if they have anyone they can recommend.
Does anyone else have any advice or suggestions to add?
Thank you for your answer. I will absolutely do that. I have a feeling this is going to turn into a complete nightmare, at my expense.
You cant predict what the new doctor will give you. Do not demand or say that methadone is the only thing that works . Thats a huge no no. They could mistake you for an addict. Work with what he suggestions by that i mean give it a month . If you are open to suggestions they will see that you are sincere and not addict. Good thing is methadone is strong potent long lasting . Meaning that it would be difficult for the doc to convert you to non excessive alternative. I would personally say that opana er could be a healthy alternative to your current script
Good Luck! I tried finding a new PM Dr and told him I had been taking methadone for about 15yrs and its the only thing thats helped my pain. He immediately said he would prolly take me OFF it and try something else! I KNOW the side effects of long term opioids! Maybe ask your Dr for a "buffer" of a few days worth so u have some in case you are in beteeen Dr.s
Re: Verwon (# 1)
The best relief for me was 80mg oxycontin 3 times a day and 5 10 mg Percocet...i am so in need of a doctor mine passed away n now on suboxone can hardly move
Re: Carling (# 2)
I’m so sorry to hear this. It seems cruel. Coming off pain meds someday you’ll only deal with withdrawals for a week. Plan on a month for methadone, unless you plan to take it forever.
