Methadone Discrimination
UpdatedRecently I was denied college enrollment (surgical tech) due to the fact that I'm on methadone for pain management. I take a low maintenance dose of 60mg/day and am well managed. I have fibromyalgia, sciatica and arthritis and something wrong with my back that I can't pronounce. I had a felony that was almost 20 yrs. old and first they made me get an expungement delaying my enrollment for 41/2 months. I went back with expungement in hand ($1000.00 later) and started the enrollment process again. Got my financial aid, met with everyone, came into my interview with the director and he denied me again based on the above saying that it would show up in my pee as they do drug testing on a pass/fail method. I had brought letters in from my primary and pain Drs. both clearing me for work and school. I was SO excited about going back to school and getting my life on track. I read their drug and alcohol policies and they go on and on but at he bottom there is a line that supersedes everything with a valid prescription as authorized by law. Well, I certainly have that. Has anyone gone through anything like this? I'm not a recovering person as I haven't been addicted to any street drugs, don't drink, don't smoke pot. Kids growing pot in my house got me the felony of 20 years ago. Help!! I'm seeing a lawyer in April but would love some input from some nice folks.
