Methadone Maintainance & Weight Gain!!! Help!!! (Page 11) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI AM A METHADONE MAINTAINANCE PATIENT, CLEAN FROM OXYCONTIN FOR THREE+ YEARS & I HAE PACKED ON 40 POUNDS! I AM RETAINING WATER & EXPERIENCE HORRIBLE CONSTIPATION...ANYONE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES OR TIPS TO HELP ME OR FIND THE CAUSE???
I am on Methadone maintenance and have been for over 20 years. I am a disabled housebound Veteran and had numerous surgeries and finally got on Methadone maintenance and it saved my life. I to have severe constipation but manage it with stool softeners and Miralax. The weight gain unfortunately is a problem with Methadone however, I will tell you what worked for ME. I cannot speak for anyone else but I took garcinia Cambogia not sure on the spelling but I’m sure u have heard of it. I also took green coffee bean with it and after 6 weeks I went from my waist being between 38-40 to 32-34 I could not believe the transformation. The only thing is you will go to the bathroom a lot due to your metabolism being increased. As I said this worked for me and I had no problems at all. I have heard some people have problems with it feeling like withdrawing and such but for me I didn’t. I would ask your doctor before beginning any medication though but I hope this helped.

Your life changed. No more running around, not eating etc, that's where the gain comes from for almost everyone. Buy generic Mira lax at Amazon. Get the two 50 dose bottles, 100+ doses for 26.00, the price of one 30 dose Mira lax! Take four doses at night. Get up, use an enema bag and insert one bag of water. In a few minutes you will start going and clean it all out. Drink a quart of water the night before and in the morning, use the enema before taking any meds. About 10 minutes after you get up. Been on methadone since 1988 and do this 2x a week with no problems at all.
Drink lots of water, eat smaller meals, have like 1 sugar instead of 2. Make little changs to your diet like that. Methadone need not bloat you up if handles correctly. You will naturally put on more weight so eat healthier, eat less and do more exercise, that's for sure. As for constipation, it is gross but just get what you can out and kind "snip" your turds off halfway, sounds horrid but I have had bad guts like that for years otherwise you'll be sitting there in LOTS of discomfort. It all depends on your diet too I suppose, more fruit for sure. Just don't eat a s*** ton of oats, that's a free tip I'll give you.. Yikes!.
Re: Gina (# 1)
I gained a few pounds at first but that was it. It seems like they are coming off as my jeans are looser and my ring keeps fall off.
While on Methadone I actually lost 98lbs. My best advice is wean yourself off that crap. I weaned myself in a few months and walked away without any withdrawals. I've had major spine surgery in Oct. 2016 straighten my spine and fusing 6 discs. I'm still in pain but I'm no longer a slave.
Just count yourself lucky you can get your meds. I took Hydrocodone for 2 decades until the Opioid Crisis caused by illegal users. My Dr cold turkied me off my meds, never a failed UT, never ran out of my meds. I am now on Tylenol 3, and now being told that will no longer be prescribed by my PPO... they want me to go to Pain Management. I am caregiver to 86 yr old Mom... 62 myself, I don't have time or help to have to drive from our rural area to where the pain management clinics are. Now pain from a new issue... adhesions from my total hysterectomy in 1997. I am surprised I haven't overdosed on the acetaminophen, as my pain level can reach a 10 at times. I have lost weight due to all of this since 2016, from about 110 lbs to 84 lbs as of my last Dr appointment the 24th. At 5'5", you can imagine what I look and feel like.
I wish I could take about half your weight for myself... as for nausea, try getting Zofram (generic is Ondansetron). They prescribe fast acting for pregnancy morning sickness. Works well for me when my nausea kicks in from pain from the adhesions.
Keep up the good fight... but don't forget us who need pain meds that work, but because of new laws/guidelines I can no longer be prescribed by my regular doctor because he's afraid his small practice may come under fire from the DEA and lose his practice or worse. I live in Florida, so makes it twice as hard. I went thru HARD WITHDRAWALS, not my choice, it was forced on me instead of being weaned off slowly as should have been done.
Have a blessed day....
You will continue to gain weight as long as your taking the methadone. Trust me
Hi. I've had the same experience. These days it's not worth trying to stop my neck pain after a horse accident. Any other way, it's a drag I agree, but better than throwing $ away here in Australia. It's been years for me. It's gone so fast. Think I've tried everything. Been taking magnesium, Celeste think it's called, drinking plenty of water. Seems to have improved things for me. Yes, weight gain is a hassle. My ankles and abdomen are swollen at the moment. Good luck. I have to go out. Let me know if I can help or how you're doing, ok?
I've gained over 60 lbs since I've started on methadone. It happens to almost everyone who gets onto methadone treatment and is on a high dose. But if this is the price of staying clean from other opioids then I'm fine with that. That seems like an acceptable trade off lol don't you? The price of being mentally and physically much healthier and not at risk of infections or worse from abusing? Yeah, I'll take the weight any day but that's not to say it isn't troublesome it's something you have to work at imo. But now that your clean don't you have so much more free time we'll spend some of it exercising! Hope this helps someone.
As far as the weight gain, its possible, though I have not gained any. Try to cut down on fattening foods. The constipation issue is real and it finally got so bad, my doctor prescribed MiraLax or Enulose syrup, both are excellent but must be taken on a daily basis. Hope this helps.
USE Senokot or any other Generic form like Senna-Lax. They are all natural vegetable laxatives and work great and very fast with LITTLE or NO cramping
I am a "Chronic-Pain patient" .. I've been taking methadone 150 mgs a day (Split doses of 100mg when I wake-up & 50mgs in the late afternoon) for over 6 years now.. My doctor used to have me on several different highly addictive opiate medications.. Morphine extended relief 100 mg pills // 200 (Or 2pills) twice a day// dialiud 8 mg tablets for breakthrough pain between 4/5 pills a day// fentanyl lollipops 1200 mg each 4 a day. I was so drugged all of the time that I couldn't function. I couldn't drive my car because I was always "Impaired" I rarely cooked because I was impaired & my husband was afraid I'd burn the house down. The quality of my life was horiable.. I lost my sex drive & when we did make love usually I was unable to reach an orgsam... So my husband & I went to my pain doctor voiceing all of said problems... He told us about methadone & offered to taper me down off of all of the medications he had me on & then start me on the methadone treatment.. It was the best thing that happened to me ever since the motorcycle accident that was'nt my fault & it changed my life forever.... I now no longer take any morphine or fentanyl lollipop's... I still have the dialiud 8 mg tablets for the breakthrough pain but I normally don't need to take them very much.. I'm able to enjoy life again. I take my Harley Davidson out almost every weekend & enjoy the wind in my hair & the beautiful scenery of the coast.. We've got a great sex life again... I didn't gain any weight at all... Yes the side-effects of the constipation are there but my doctor has me on a stool softner & mirulax powder in whatever beverage I want twice a day & it's worked fine... I wish you the best of luck....
Barbie, Please dont try playing doctor..Methadone may have caused you to gain weight but I have been on maintenance since 2001 and 3 years later I went from 125LBS to 160LBS. Everyone said it was methadone but I dont listen to people unless they have an MD after their name..I went to my PCP and it WAS NOT methadone, I have a low thyroid..As soon as I started on the medication, I started losing weight...There is so much ignorance concerning methadone, stupid things like It gets into your bones. once you get on you can never get off, it ruins yur liver, it gets you loaded..all false statments. Methadone has saved my life and it saved most of my friends lives and my husband, so Barbie B4 you go shooting off your mouth. I sugest you read the facts and unless you know the whole truth STFU.. People have left the program listening to lies about methadone and some landed up dead.. Of course methadone is not for everyone, but for people like me who battled addiction for 20+ years, it saved me....Methadone is a huge desision that should be thought out carefully, and I did a lot of searching before I decided to get on methadone, and for me it was the only way to live a normal life......
I need help, im so depressed I just want to die in my bed I was a beautiful girl, now I try and get off pills get in methadone and gain alottttt of weight, I wont even go out side ALL I EAT IS ABOUT 15 bags a day of chocolate chex mex, I have no desire for food I HATE THIS.. PLEASE HELP.. {edited for privacy}
Easy for you to say when your still only 158lbs. I started at the methadone clinic weighing in at about 135 lbs now 5 yrs later still on methadone U weigh 230lbs. I have never weighed over 155lbs in my life (I thought I was so fat at 155lbs). I don't eat junk food minus a frappucina from Starbucks one or twice a week. I don't each frozen or premade food. I each lean meats with vegetables for dinner every night. I really don't know what to do. It isn't all methadones fault. When I first started I also got a birth control shot. I was told I may gain 5 lbs and don't you know I gained over 70lbs in way less than a year. It was like the two things together Methadone and birth control just made me gain so much so fast. I was outgrowing brand new clothes every week. I'd have to go buy new clothes and they wouldn't fit in a week or two. But anyways. 158lbs really isn't that hard to have to live with. You are still skinny.
Did it really change your life that much? My main issue is the swearing. I could deal with everything else. I sweat so bad that I am soaking wet after being outside for only a couple minutes even. I don't want too go anywhere because I feel like everyone is starting.
it's because methadone makes you crave sugar. cut sugar soda out completely and try to cut as much bread and bad carbs as you can. after you get through a week of it it gets much easier because your body stops craving sugar. try eating foods high in fiber andyyou'll feel fuller faster too. i lost 19lbs in a week while on methadone and it felt great. once all that sugar and carb weight is gone you'll have an easier time burning fat with exercise. walking for 30min a day will even do it. good luck.
Same here I gain weight n lose it fast. I get to 140 n next month im at 110". i love to gain n stay at that weight. I hate being skinny. dnt like people who talk s*** as u know but I just feel right being skinny. good luck
Well, I hope you're still alive. As I'm sure you have come to realize is that 500/700 is not enough. I hope you're healthy and have realized what you're doing is just another addiction in itself.
Would u reccomend gettimg off the merhadone and switxhing to pain pills if thats really the reason i go to the clinic and they treat me like a damn criminal i cant even drink a beer even tho that wasnt my problem but i got ina accident and messed my body up i need pain meds the methadome worka but i haye the clinic and the weihht gaim. Do u reccomens me goimg back to the pain meds
