Methadone Information

I am a chronic pain management patient with ( I have been told by my doctors) no chance of ever being off pain meds. I have a serious disease I can barely pronounce. At any rate, my opioids are so difficult to managethat it is driving me crazy. Every 800 or 888 number I can find is just a 12 step person who tells me that it is a terrible choice. In other words, I can find NO number of a reasonable, educated person who can tell me if this is a good choice for me... HELP!!!

Hello, Frank! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in so much pain.

Methadone is notorious for being highly addictive, which is why most places will tell you to stay away from it. However, for some people in severe pain, it can be a god send, especially when you've run out of other options.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

It's something you can discuss with your doctor, but only the two of you can decide if it's a good choice for you to try.
