Hi Lisa my dr.retired and left a lot of his patients screwed.I have been giving methadone for chronic pain.I live in bucks county,if you can help me with your doctors name I couldn't thank you enough.
you are dead wrong they use methadone for pain frequently I know because they use it at the VA Medical Center and it is given to me for pain and to my father we are both disabled vets you do not have to be an addict to get methadone prescribed to you do your homework before you start posting answers to confuse people
Need a Dr. in Philadelphia, Pa. that will prescribe methadone. Have legit chronic pain from nerve damage.
It's sad to say, but I've pretty much resigned myself to this necessity: having to be observed and restricted on a traditional MAT PROGRAM for the remainder of my life.
I've been a patient/client on MMT for 13 years. For 10 of of those years I've consistently delivered clean urinalyses, observed by camera AND a nurse INSIDE the restroom. I am, by request, slowly titrating from the methadone. The REASON for my need for the medication has changed, dramatically, since first walking through the doors lo those 13 years ago. One of the clinical directors has given me a letter, official letterhead, dated, and signed, describing the fact that I NOW need pain treatment. I've been diagnosed with a terminal illness (that is trying to kick my ass, tring to kick my back in ! heh heh ROUTE FOR THE BEAR !) This illness renders me so pain ridden on some days that I muster all that I can to be emotionally (much less physically) available to my teenaged grandchild that I'm raising. I also have chronic shingles pain along my rib cage, have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and have a bulging disk in my back.
As is typical (and somewhat understandable) no one wants to believe an addict, albeit a RECOVERING addict with TEN YEARS CLEAN of ANY illicit substances, PROVABLE. So, therein lies my dilemma.
I need a facility and/or doctor which/who can treat my pain. I'm in no condition to do a quick detox from the 'done. That could actually kill me dead like a mug ! lol So, what I need is a doctor who could/would help me, with the understanding that, yes, after 13 years, I am indeed addicted to this PEESCRIBED medication, methadone, and that this self same medication relieves my pain. My pain relief is marginal, though, because of my absolute desire to be OFF this PROGRAM and the fact that, every ten days, my milligramage is being decreased (again, as per MY REQUEST)
Yes, I only go ONCE A WEEK (As we all know, this type of schedule is only earned after of years of clean urines....doesn't seem to matter much though in my effort to find a compassionate and willing doctor.
Discretion is of the utmost import. (wouldn't want my grand child's peers to discover her grandmother's "history", much less my present diagnosis (or should I say, diagnoses and prognoses)
ANY and ALL advice would be tremendously appreciated.
Peace
Ms. One
@well educated addict...no one is saying that a physician can not prescribe methadone for pain.
What was said, and is COMPLETELY true is that a doctor CAN NOT prescribe methadone to treat addiction. Federal law regulates that methadone used FOR ADDICTION, must be provided by a OTP (opioid treatment program), or in laymen terms, a clinic.
So no one is confused, let me point out that we are talking about physicians in private practice. Obviously methadone clinics have a doctor who is in charge of prescribing the clients dose, but it is in the confines of an OTP.
I have chonic pain from cancer, I do get a prescription every month for methadone from my pain doctor. So yes it is used for pain, it was originally for cancer patients.
Actually it was originally used by Germany in ww2 for soldiers... Just saying...

Re: Andy (# 7)

I was prescribed methadone for 5 years my doctor retired. So I'm looking for a new doctor. To prescribe it to me. Thank 5
You can't receive it from a private physician for addiction treatment. Under federal law, it can only be given for addiction treatment in a clinical setting by people that are specially trained to do so.

Have you considered trying Suboxone? It's got a better success rate at enabling people to eventually become completely drug free.
