Methadone Detox-- At The End

After I stopped taking Dilaudid (prescribed) I got violently ill, freaked out and found myself at a for-profit methadone clinic.

I was there for 6 months, my highest dose was 45 mg but I spent the majority of it at 30 mg. Even though I earned 3 take homes, I became VERY sick of driving in there 4 days a week and paying $450/month ($15 per day) and I wasn't there for the right reasons (because I freaked out from the previous withdrawal) so I started my detox and totally ignored their suggested schedule and did it my way (much faster).

I've read nothing but horror stories about coming off methadone and the greedy people at my clinic told me I should drop 1 mg every 1-2 weeks. I dropped by 5 mg from 45mg until 20mg where I stayed for a month, then jumped down to 10mg for 10 days, then 1 mg every 5 days-- I'm down to 1 mg and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I haven't even become slighty ill and I can't imagine that the 1 mg every 24 hours is "holding me" or keeping the withdrawals away.

I even skipped a day to see what would happen and-- NADA.

Just curious if I got lucky or if I'm going to eat my own words in the upcoming days. Do any of you have methadone detoxification stories to share?

Side Note: I am taking Ultram for a shattered big toe, NOT for withdrawal, so maybe that is masking some of the symptoms, I don't know.

Yes, the active ingredient in Ultram is Tramadol, which is an opiate narcotic, so it could be helping to stave off some of the withdrawal effects. Methadone usually causes very severe withdrawals and cravings.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

How are you doing now? Any change?

Dry Mouth from Hell........... and I'll break out in sweats hardcore, but they will leave as fast as they came.... The Toe is healing so I'm not on the Ultram anymore.... I'm not sleeping very well... but I'm not getting this "I want to die" stuff that everyone talks about. I should mention that I did cut it down to 1/2 mg for 5 days with a take-home I had that had a tiny bit left in it (I'm estimating the amount).

Right now I feel like someone lit my hair on fire but in 5 minutes I'll be shaking and freezing.......... Albeit these symptoms are VERY annoying, they aren't like the horror stories I've read.

tramadol is a non narcotic. it still may be helping, and if it is use it. methadone is a life stealing poison and your drive is inspiring you're doing great.

Ultram or tramadol is not really an opiode and its a good thing your on Eucharist low methadonedose because tramadol can cause automatic withdrawal symptoms whichcan be severe when taken with methadone. Now some people might be more or less sensitive to different drug interactions I'm not sure but after having a seizure while I had both medicines in my system. I looked into the interactions of the two drugs online which you can do if you want but id guess that you are fine since not only is your dose only one milligram but you've been taking both for this long without a problem.

I know it's a year later but I thought I would share how it all wrapped up. It was a cake walk, those annoying symptoms subsided literally 2 days later. So, essentially - I got off the methadone "my way", about 20 times faster than the clinic wanted me to and the worse thing that happened were some hot/cold flashes and sweating for a few days.

I was able to make those huge drops without a twinge of WD.

If anyone is out there trying to get off of the evil pink juice---you might want to discuss with a NON-Clinic Doctor about making larger drops and if it doesn't work out for you, you can always go right back up.

One thing to remember is that I am not immune to withdrawals by any means. I've had them MANY times in the past coming off of Dilaudid or Oxy and I would violently puke for a week straight and mastered the "puking while having the runs simultaneously", hallucinations and sweating buckets.

Stay Strong and don't over-think it because I believe when you anticipate agony--- your body will manifest some up for you!
