Methadone 5mg And Buttons Patch

Am on methadone 5mg daily now doctor wants me to take butrans patch for severe back and nerve pain. Can i take them both or will i get sick? How long do i have to stop methadone before starting the butrans patch?

No, you usually can't take anything else with the Butrans, because the Buprenorphine in it tends to cling stronger to your opiate receptors and prevent other opiates from having any effect.

And unless your doctor has specified otherwise, you need to be in full withdrawal from the Methadone, before starting the Butrans, otherwise, it may throw you into dangerous precipitated withdrawals due to the way it takes over the opiate receptors.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
