Hi!
I started taking Metformin today. I have PCOS and gained 15 pounds in six months
In conjunction I am following a Paleo diet with no grain or gluten whatsoever, no dairy other than butter and the occasional sweet potato or plantain.
I'd like to know if fruit is a safe source of carbohydrate with Metformin?i take 500 mg with breakfast and dinner.are there specific times to make it more efficient?

Hello, Delphine! How are you?

The main concern with the fruit is the effect that the sugars in it will have on the insulin in your body. It's not dangerous, per se, but it could aggravate your PCOS, if you eat too much.

The best time to take it is at the start of meal, so the medication has a chance to start working, by the time you are digesting your food.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Metformin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, diarrhea and flatulence.

Is there anything else I can help with?
