Melocet Safety

In india melatonin comes with the name Melocet. I have sleep disturbance since 1 or two years. I have been asked to take meltonin 0.3 mg every day for quite sometime. Is this tablet safe? I am 84 year old. Is it better than alparazolam. 25 mg. Kindly advise

Yes, I think that melatonin is pretty safe, especially at such a low dose as what you are taking. I have been taking 0.5mg every night for years and I find that if I miss a night while traveling I am still able to sleep. So it's not habit forming from what I have observed. Plus, it is not known to interact with other drugs (as it's not technically a "drug"). Where it gets concerning is people taking 5-10 mg at a time over long term, I don't think high doses like that are good. But 2mg or less should be ok.
