I have had severe insomnia for two years. Have had a sleep study, where I slept a total of two hours during the night, even with ambien. Trying so hard to get off ambien and benedril which are making me so dopey/brain foggy during the day. Sleep Dr. put me on 20 mg of melatonin. Having some decent sleep with this huge dosage, but having significant digestive problems, cramping and nearly uncontrolled BMs.... Anyone else experience the same? Thanks for your reply....

Have you consulted your doctor?
20mgs is a very high dosage to be taking, it's usually taken in doses from 3 to 5mgs.
The diarrhea and cramping have been known to occur in some people taking it, but the high dose may be making them more severe for you.
