Medroxyprogesterone And Having Occasional Bleeding (Top voted first)
UpdatedI am 69 and started bleeding in Oct. Had Ultra sound and was told I have a thick uterine wall. Went to gynecologist and had pap and biopsy. Had a polyp that was removed as out-patient. She said it was largest she ever saw and filled cavity. Pap came back normal and biopsy benign, but pre-cancer. I was put on Medroxyprogsterone and will have another biopsy in March. I have been on the Medroxyprogesterone for a week and last night I had some light bleeding when I went to the bathroom. Is this normal? It doesn't happen every day. Will it ever stop? Thanks.

Hello, Shirley! How are you?
Yes, that can happen if your uterine wall has a thick lining. It's usually caused by excess estrogen and this medication is used to help thin it, by causing it to expel, which can result in bleeding.
However, if it continues for too long, or gets very heavy, then you should consult your doctor.
The FDA lists other possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness and headache.
Is there anything else I can help with?
Thank you for your reply. It is a relief to know this is supposed to happen. I am on 10 mgs a day for 90 days and go back for biopsy in March. So far it hasn't been heavy at all and no bad side effects. Thank you again.
This is in addition to my first post. I started the Medroxyprogesterone 10 mg the end of Dec. and by mid January the bleeding and spotting had stopped. I am still on the Medroxyprogesterone until mid June. I saw my gynecologist in March and everything was fine. I go back June 8th for a biopsy. Today I started to have some spotting. Is this normal to begin while still taking the medicine and having been on it for several months? I have a call in to my gynecologist, but I am worried and just wondered if it was normal to have some spotting again.
Thank you
