Medications I Am Taking Not Controling The Pain
UpdatedI need some suggestions about my medications? I think the doctor is really low dosing me in comparison to my pain. I would like to know if others agree and what has worked for you. I have chronic back pain and was taking 80mg of methadone. Had Disc Surgery in the neck and turned out fine however the lower is causing problems and now for some reason I have developed swollen feet and ankles which is from what the doctors believe right now a disease like MS. Anyway the pain in my feet from the swelling is so bad, horrible, terrible I can barley walk. Can not work. Scream a lot in the middle of a step and in my sleep. When I can sleep. no more then 2 hours or less at a time or at the entire night. i have tried to explain how bad the pain is to my pain specialist who has seen the extreme changes. But all I am on right now is still 80mg of methadone and he added the 40mg of oxycodone per day. Its not enough? I have experimented a little taking more. i know I know not a good idea to take more unless the doc says so. I did it anyway, the dose has been as high as 160mg and 80mg of the oxycodone. It did not make a dent. The pain is still so extreme it's almost unbearable and some days it is unbearable. Serious reply's only please.

Hello, Kay! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you're in so much pain.
I think you really need to get to the root of what's causing the swelling to resolve the problem. As long as there are no answers there, it's doubtful that even higher doses of the narcotics will help.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Have you tried seeing a neurologist?
