It depends on the type and severity of the infection, but if it is a bacterial infection, an antibiotic will be needed and they are only available via doctor's prescription.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
Do you get such infections regularly? Have you consulted your doctor?
