Medication Change (narcotic)
UpdatedHi. I was previosly prescribed 250mg of Tridural daily, with 5mg-10mg Oxy-contin every four hours, If required, to deal with chronic left and right knee pain. I had a mild stroke in December, I fell twice while in hospital landed on both knees. Put a 5 mm crack in one knee-cap badly bruised the other. I am 54yrs old, slim build. My knees apparently resemble a 70 yr olds (according to X-Rays & M.R.I's)
My meds have now been changed to Hydromorph contin 9mg there times daily (total 27mg), with 2mg-3mg every two to four hours PMS-Hydromorphone when required.
Can someone possibly explain the change? Also now on numerous heart drugs.

The Hydromorphone is a much stronger narcotic to help control pain, which is probably why they switched you to it.
It is a narcotic, so it may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

I really can't cover the heart medications, since you didn't list the specific ones.
Are there any other questions?
I am now on hydromorph contin and it does absolutely nothing to help my pain. I have one leg and a messed up other leg and head and back pain. All from a serious accident. This is the worst med I have been on. It is like taking nothing.
I was on oxycodone for 2+ years and it worked perfect. 15mg every four hours. Up to 60mg in total a day.
I am on 6mg hydromorph contin twice daily. I have taken both at the same time (12mg), and it still does not help with anything. Should I ask my Doctor for 30mg twice daily?
Hi John. I had a severe injury to my left knee requiring reconstructive surgery in '09, then an arthoscopic about 5 months later. I was in a car accident 12 days after the 2nd surgery. I was in the passenger seat and we had a head on collision going about 60 mph. Other than a concussion, I had neck and lower back pain, but no visible injuries other than the dashboard being smashed into my knee. It instantly swelled up pretty badly and hurt worse than before the accident. My ortho surgeon just took an xray, said he saw no problems so they drained my knee about 3 times over the next month until it returned to its normal size. I finally got tired of the chronic pain and had my first visit with a pain management doc last Monday. He said I he could tell I have some severe arthritis and nerve damage after just an initial physical. Anyways, it sounds like we may have some similar injuries so I wanted to see if you wouldn't mind giving any advice as to what has helped and what hasn't for your pain. Also feel free to ask if you have any ?s for me.
