Medical Outcomes From Using Yasmin Or Yaz

I believe my wife using Yasmin is what caused her blood clot and eventually her death. Bayer use to imply Yasmin and Yaz were safer then all the other contraceptives. Now Bayer is saying Yasmin and Yaz are just as safe and the number of Adverse Events is no more or less then other contraceptives. I am so sorry for those who have lost a love one or suffered through the pain some of the Adverse Events might have caused them.

I don’t think I have the right or the knowledge to stop anyone from taking any drug that’s been approved by the FDA but I think doctors should take more responsibility about informing their patients of the benefits and risks and what other options they might have to taking this one drug. They also need to inform them of what they need to do if they should suffer any symptoms from taking that drug. Doctors should also be accountable for when they prescribe a off-Label drug for something it was never approved for.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

All hormonal based oral contraceptives, regardless of what they are used for, do carry the risk of causing blood clots, especially if a woman has other risk factors, such as being a smoker.

But yes, I do have to agree with you. There are many times I read posts on our site from various people who's doctors did not inform them of the possibly adverse effects of a medication they were prescribed and most people don't read the full detailed drug information, or even the small monograph they receive from their pharmacy.

It is sad that we have to be our own best advocates, as most doctors will not take the time to explain the possible risks and benefits. I am always happy to help people here, but sometimes, that is already too late.

Are there any questions or comments?
