Mallinckrodt Fentanyl Patch (Page 3)

Updated

Does anyone know how it is made? Does it have the medicine woven into the fabric of the patch or is it in a pouch form? Thank you.

Can you tell us what brand the pharmacy gave you? I for one had absolutely no relief from the Mallinckrodt brand and since you posted on this page that's why I wonder. So sorry you have to continue suffering. I also have had no reaction other than pain from being without pain meds when there have been breaks of a few days waiting until the right brand comes in. Sadly I cannot take any NSAID pain relievers because of allergy.

Bupe won't block other opiates if you're taking straight bupe (subutex), it's when it's mixed with naloxone (suboxone) that it has the blocking effect. I would think after 8 days of nothing though that you would get relief from 150mcg (3 of your 50mcg patches). This does lead me to believe that it may be a 'bunk' brand. I've found Mylan to be the best for me, Duragesic is also good but I had terrible irritation from them at the application site. Do you have anything short acting for break through pain? Does it seem to have any effect at all or is it null like the patches? Btw, they never, ever lasted 3 days for me. Let us know what brand you have.

It is the "Mylan" brand. 50mcg

I'm kind of at a loss, 150mcg is a pretty dang good dose of fentanyl (assuming all you were previously taking was 2mg of bupe). The mylan brand collectively seems to have pretty good effectiveness for most people (there are always exceptions however). Where on your body are you placing the patches? How much time passed before you applied patch 2 & then 3? Do you have a short acting med for break through pain?

I applied 1 50MCG patch (ostensibly good for 72 hours), it was applied on my left chest. After 27 hours an zero pain relief, I applied patch #2 on my right chest. 24 hours after that, I applied the 3rd patch. I placed this (3rd) patch directly on my back, directly above the most painful bulge. I also just replaced the original (left chest) patch with a new one as it had reached the "72 hour" limit. I have also been taking (per the Dr.) "Flexerill" and "Naprosyn" - still, absolutely zero relief. Per my MRI and the Radiologist report, I have "4 bulging discs" and 3 veterbrae which have no discs whatsoever.

Wow, with all that medication I can only recommend getting into as neutral a position as you can and applying ice packs 20 min on and 20 off. Too bad I can't lend you my excellent ice packs. You sound like I felt after extensive rotator cuff surgery.

And that is the 3rd stool of the leg. I just began a new job the day after my (Easter Sunday) "incident." I have not been able to sit at a desk for more than 1 minute; unable to stand at a desk for more than 1 minute. Etc. etc., ad nauseum. My new company simply cannot fathom that it is impossible for me to work as they have never had the pain that I am experiencing. I am going to call the doctor and ask for a bill that will allow for "breakthrough pain.

Detroit Ken,

I'm in the boat, I can't sit for long, can't stand for long. I have an ergo lift at my desk that I can lift into a standing position that raises my entire monitor, keyboard, mouse and thenlowers it back down when I need to sit again. I can't imagine why they wouldn't haveyou on something for break through pain as well.

I have been on a fentanyl patch of one strength or the other for some 15 years due to a tragic fall from a ladder some 20' high as well as diagnosed Fibromyalgia as a result from this accident and subsequent 4 spinal surgeries and in my very learned opinion there is NO FENTANYL PATCH THAT WILL MATCH THE MYLAN BRAND. It is basically half the size of say Watson Brand, very thin and the adhesive is non intrusive to my skin due to having problems with adhesive. So ABSOLUTELY I would recommend the Mylan Brand, PERIOD!

Okay, well i have good news and bad news, the only generic closest to the brand duragesic is Watson, next activas than mylan, teva and last being the worst is apotex & mallinkrodt. I have been using DURAGESIC brand name for 6 years and know from experience in the first few months in the beginning of my treatment from using every brand of fentanyl that the absolutely worst was apotex & mallinkrodt. The reason why there is less medication in most generic patches is because of they way there made and priced some have 20%-30% less than brand. Ex; 100 mcg brand content 16.8mg per patch. Generics 100 mcg. Is anywhere from 10mg-11.09mg content.

Yes this is true you have adhesive then the membrane. Next the Medicine and the plastic film son people say three layers because the glue is on the membrane. But it is a actually four. The membrane is very easy to peel. Take a k I've get it started in the middle and work it around. The whole membrane will peel quite easily.

Doesn't matter if you are on Subutex or Suboxone. Bupronorphine alone DOES "block" the receptors. Naltrexone was added to keep people from administering it intravenously.

To have the patches stay on it is best to cover them with a Tegaderm patch. Also, I have found the Mylan patch to be best. I have never found them as effective on the third day. When I finally called Mylan about it they said it is in their literature that some people need 48 hour dosing. I then spoke to the spine center working with me and they agreed. Then I googled 'can Fentanyl be replaced sooner', coming across an article which I printed for my local doctor who prescribes for me. I now change the patch every 2 days.

I have tried the same brand of mallinckrodt and it was so weak compared to the activis brand I used.

I'm having trouble with the Mallinckrodt brand not staying on for more than 48hrs. Also, the relief I feel from them is equal to the 50mcg patch. Any suggestions for better brands to ask my pharmacist about?

Firstly Mallinckrodt is truly junk and not worth your time and money. I use Mylan and let the pharmacy know each time that's what I need. If you use Mylan and contact them they will send you Tegaderm patches over them. But only enough for a month at a time. Myself, I get the tegaderm online in boxes of 50, the 4' x 4 3/4. Prices really vary so do your research.
