Mahacef contains the active ingredient Cefixime, which is a cephalosporin class antibiotic.

And no, as an antibiotic, it will not be effective against the virus that causes a cold and if you use it improperly, you also run the risk of developing antibiotic resistance, which could create many complications if you do get an infection that requires an antibiotic.

Common side effects to this medication may include: nausea, drowsiness, diarrhea and skin rash.
