I am wondering if my MS Contin (morphine) is different than the N 100 mg morphine sulfate (blue bill)? I'm curious because of switching and I had tried one before talking to my doctor, worried that if I took a urine test that it would show the difference.

I want to stop taking ms connin can I start .taking my dilualid ## You can make the switch, if your doctor approves, but if the doses are not comparable, you may experience some withdrawal effects. The FDA lists them as possibly including nausea, dizziness, fever, chills, rebound pain, depression and diarrhea. What is the dose of each? Are you having a problem with the MS Contin?

My morphine was missing or stolen from my script (12) pills I didn't know if the was the pharmacy's fault or my son had stolen the pills but I decided to cut back on pills, then went three days without pills. Worst three days of my life, on my pickup day I had to take a u/a. My question is will I be found negative for the morphine, and if so how do I tell my doctor? Every test I have passed. This one I am worried because I could lose my contract. ## It will be in the urine for at least 5 to 7 days, no need to worry. ## I found that you are right i worrird for nothing ## Ihe ua came back neg for morphine and i had to come clean with my doctor. Lucky for me she could tell i was telling the truth and kept my contract but I asked to be tappered off the meds oh n for my son kicked my...

Will the side effects of MS Contin, (eg nausea and tiredness ) subside after time. I have been prescribed 10mg x twice a day but find the sickness and tiredness is still an issue and hope it is temporary and will settle down. ## Hello, Hamish! How are you? Yes, technically they should. Side effects are usually transient and go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that may take 4 to 5 weeks. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause other side effects, such as dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## If they don't ease off, after that time period, then you should consult your prescriber, as you may need to try a different medication.

Can anyone tell me what 30 mg of morphine er would be equivalent to if it were taken with alcohol? I read if you drink with morphine er it could release the entire pill into your system. I didn't know this when I was drinking beer with it. Thanks. ## Hello, Freida! How are you? No, I am not aware of any issues like that. However, drinking alcohol while taking it should generally be avoided, due to the fact that it can potentiate some of the side effects, so you may experience more nausea, drowsiness and dizziness than usual, as reported by the FDA. It is also warned that MS Contin carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I've been on ms contin (morphine er 30 mg) 3 x daily. I was also taking doxepin 100 mg for sleep. Ended up with a massive headache & eye pain. Ended up in the e.r. where a nurse said the doxepin cancels out the morphine. Anyone know about this? ## No, I can't find anything on this, either. Similarly to your other question, this is another case where taking them together causes potentiation of the side effects, though. Thus, you could experience more intense nausea, dizziness and drowsiness than usual, as reported by the FDA. The Morphine itself can sometimes cause headaches in some people that take it, so can the Doxepin, so that may also have been potentiated and resulted in the severe headache/eye pain that you experienced, which sounds like it may have been a migraine. It...

I have been in pain management for years and need to get a job. Want to get a CDL license and have to deal with a DOT physical. How long will it take for these drugs to leave my system? I take 60mg MS Contin twice a day and Norco 10/325 twice a day. Coming off these drugs wont be easy and the withdrawal effects will probably take longer than them coming out of my system. Don't know if I will be able to take the pain but need to try.

I have had migraine headaches for 25 years and I get them three to five time a week. My doctor had me on MS Contin and he died, now I cannot find a doctor anywhere that will prescribe me any pain meds. Does anyone know of a doctor in Pittsburgh, Pa that will prescribe narcotics? ## I may not have a doctor I can refer you to, but I can provide you with a couple links that may be of service to you in locating pain management doctors within your general area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: {link removed because site no longer exists} You can give this other page a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another: wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) ...

I'm 120lbs, can I take 60mg of MS Contin ## Hello, Kaye! How are you? Has your doctor prescribed it for you? It can vary from person to person depending on your tolerance to opiates. This dose may be too much for some people, but not for others, if they are used to taking it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Kaye, if you're uncomfortable with taking that much, ask your dr to give you a lower dose for a few weeks and see how it does. If you haven't taken MS Contin or Morphine before, it may make you sleepy or put you to sleep, so take it when you don't have to be alert or awake for a while.

The doctor is 45mg ms contin twice a day. What is the equal dosage in oxycodone ## Hello, Veteran! How are you? You'd need only 30mgs of Oxycodone for each 45mgs of Morphine that you take. The time released formulation of Oxycodone is called Oxycontin. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

my wife (,age 48) underwent an anterior lumbar discectomy 3 months ago.she is not taking the operation well at all. she can barely walk and the 4 mg dilauded tabs are about useless for managing the pain.we live in Westerly ri and cant find a dr that isn't afraid of narcotics. can someone recomend a dr with some balls ## Hello, John! How is your wife? What type of doctor has she been consulting? Physicians really have no choice but to be extremely cautious about prescribing such medications and, due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if strong narcotics are required on a long-term ongoing basis, then only a specialist can prescribe them. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

Switch from taking Vicodin 15mg 4xaday to MS Contin 15mg twice a day with 15mg Vicodin 3x a day . Why is my pain not getting any better? ## There are no 15mg Vicodin tablets, so what are you taking with the MS Contin? The dosage may not be equivalent, so that could explain why it isn't handling your pain. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

As most of you here, I've been taking MS Contin 60 mg and Oxycodone IR for break through among other meds of course. I have had RSD/CRPS for 26 years and Lupus for about 5 years. I live in PA now and never really considered the ramifications of moving to a state with such pain med issues. Due to job loss I've had to reschedule my meds taking fewer of them and being in worse pain. I don't want to find just a prescribing doctor. I want to continue my treatment. Any advice? ## I moved back to Panama City Beach, FL, in 2012 after moving away in 2003. In TN, where we moved from, I was on Hydrocodone 10/325 and Opana, so 2 opiates. When I moved here, the first neurologist I saw told me that she didn't like to give 2 opiates at the same time. So, I suffered through the pain for...

I am in pain management. I drink about four quarts of water a day. I am diabetic. My list of meds are MS Contin, Norco for breakthrough pain , Xanax for PTSD, metformin, clonidine, *bp med*, Lasix for water retention, vistaril for itching, thyroid, Cipro, Medrol dose pack at the time of test, azo for bladder infections, laxatives and softeners. Amytriptaline, Ibuprofen or naproxen with Norco, afrin nasal spray , mucinex, megadoses , and albuterol for asthma and copd as well as combivent. My doctor says my meds came in low and there was valium in my system. I don't think anything is infallible and that some drugs with others can offer a false positive. I love my doctor. This man is the reason I walk today. I cannot lose him to distrust. I understood my contract with him and I respect...

Went to my doctor of nearly 10 years. The nurse told me "he didn't write your Rx for MS Contin". I've been on 300 mgs of the morphine sulfate for several years. Doc didn't write the Rx because a urine test two weeks ago came back as positive for codeine and methadone. I do not take either! The nurse said "I know you can't get methadone, did someone slip you something?" I said NO. This has me dumbfounded. I was getting my pain meds by the week as were all his other patients. I've read codeine turns to morphine in metabolism, so even if I HAD taken that, it would show as morphine! No idea about why methadone shows up. Was told go to the hospital for blood and urine. That hospital false tested me years ago, saying no fentanyl showed up when I was on it r...

I just started taking MS Contin. Last couple I have been having body aches and running low grade temp. Not sure what is going on, is 30mg to much or not enough? Please t ## Hello, Randy! How are you? Morphine can cause those types of side effects in some people that take it. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It usually just takes awhile for your body to get used to new medication, you should see improvement in about 4 to 6 weeks. However, it would be best to consult your doctor, just in case, since you are also running a fever. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on loratab 10/325 3times day and soma 3 times a day. Dr. changed me today (01/09/2012) new gov. law as of 01/01/12. Can't give me soma with Loritab. Now he put me on MS Contin 60mg 2times a day with 3 soma's daily. He told me the MS Contin was stronger by far than Loritab. I didn't want to give up soma b/c they help so much w/muscle spasms. Is this true or will I go through withdrawl from Loritab. I'm worried after reading all blogs on MS Contin not being as strong of a pain relief. I have been through the bad withdrawl of opiate b4 and never want it again. I thought morphine was an opiate like hydrocodone and doseage was stronger and worked better. As Dr. said. Can anyone answer my question here asap. Thanks ## Yes, Morphine is a narcotic opiate and it and t...

I am having a second back surgery. The first time I was prescribed 10 mg Oxycodone Immediate REL Tabs every 4 hours. This time I am prescribed MS Contin 30 mg every 12 hours plus my regular medication of Norco 10-325 every 6 hours. Which is stronger the Oxycodone without the Norco or the MS Contin with Norco for surgical back pain relief. I regularly take on a daily basis Norco 10-325 every six hours prn, Metaxalone 800 mg 3x per day and Gabapentin 800 mg 3x per day. I will continue my regular prescriptions. Please advise which will be the best for back surgery pain relief. ## Hello, Gary! How are you? Overall, the MS Contin with added Norco is stronger, but only if the Norco is figured in. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit f...

My neurologist at that time. He put me on MS contin. In 1998, I was out of my mind in pain. I stopped taking the ms contin. I didn't fill the last Rx for my pain. I called my neurologist and told him that I wasn't taking it anymore. He said I was a good girl. I thought that painful experience was over. I was Dx with ms in 2004. I'm in pain again. The worst pain I ever had was from the winged scapular. My new neurologist told me that he will never give me pain medicine because I took ms contin and I could have gotten addicted to it. My leg hurts a lot now. I have never been treated like trash like this guy is doing to me now. I have ms fatigue. He doesn't want to see my medical records from my previous neurologist. I don't know what this guy is thinking. I should be a...

Hi, first of all, thank you in advance for all your assistance! I have been in 2 different car wrecks, as well as a 2 time cancer survivor. I've recently had to switch doctors as my PCWORLD has closed her practice. Anyways, I was able to find another PCP, but he has switched my pain medication from Oxycontin 60 mg ER 2x's daily to MS Contin 60 mg ER 2x's daily, he did keep my Percocets 7.5/325 2x's daily for breakthrough. Obviously the MS Contin does not work as well. My question is, he has recommended me to switch to Butrans (buprenorphine) transdermal patches. Is anyone familiar with this and if so, could you please tell me of your experience, i.e. does it work; what are the pros &/or cons. Thank you! ## I would advise you to get back on oxycontin rather than ms co...
