Ms Contin Safe To Take After It Expired?

So I have these morphine sulfate er 15mg.. I know they're generic for ms contin.. but what I was wondering, if it would be alright to take them, even though the prescription is two years old.. anyone have any insight on this?

They don't turn dangerous past the expiration date, if that's what asking, however, they can lose effectiveness, so they will not be as potent as they were when newly prescribed.

Morphine is a very potent narcotic analgesic.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

Uh, maybe. I just took.. 8 of them and still nothing. They lose that much potentness over time?

I take MS SR every 12 hours. Sometimes I find myself breathing slowly than I start getting scared/anxious that I will stop breathing. I always get Morphine via IV when I go to ER's or impatient and it does the same but it lingers less. MS IR works great on my pain since I had ACDF but maybe I'm just paranoid since now I'm taking Morphine at home w/out nurses being around if needed?

Zar, if the medication you are taking is the MS Contin, then the reason the symptoms may be lasting longer is because it is a time release formulation.

Narcotics can cause respiratory depression and it is more pronounced in some people than in others.

As long as it is not hitting to the point where it is dangerous and you are passing out, you should be fine.

Amanda, you took 8? Are you trying to overdose? That is a dangerous amount to take, if they worked, you could have put yourself in severe danger, perhaps even caused a fatal reaction!!!!

Yes, medications can severely lose potency.
