Mirtazapine Rxn

My physician placed me on a 15mg dose of Mirtazapine beginning with just a 'half' dose for the 1st week. I tried this dosage for 2 nights and ended up having 'heigthened' throbbing and 'restless-like' syndrome of my entire body-especially the right side. I have Fibromyalgia, Renauds' syndrome and have suffered from years of sleep problems. I have been on varying doses of Elavil over the last 12 yrs but this no longer helps.
I do suffer from mild depression, mostly due to work stresses but I have been on a medical leave since July 11'05 post rotator cuff surgery.
Tonight I will be trying Ambien- 5mg dose.
The claim that Mirtazapine is used to treat 'tremors' is contradictory in my case-seemed like it was causing mild tremor-like throbbing with my legs/arms .
Although I do not appear to suffer from 'real' apnea', I still think a Sleep Study would be useful but my physician does not.
Thank you for any insight and/or support............

Well, first off, sleep studies check for more than just apnea, they can also detect a number of other issues that cause problems getting good quality sleep, so yes, you are correct, it could still be helpful.

As to the Mirtazapine, yes, it has been known to cause such side effects in some people that take it, though it is not common. Side effects usually go away with time, once your body gets used to a medication. You can learn more about this medication on MedlinePlus,

Additionally, there are always some medications that cause the opposite of their desired effect in some people that try them.

Have you considered getting a second opinion regarding whether or not a sleep study would be beneficial?
