Melmet-500sr

I am 61 years old with sugar level 140-180 fasting
everyday 1 tablet daily after b/fast, medication started only 20 days back, is there any problems in taking
melmet 500 sr for long period, I do get pain on the left
hand at joints regularly once in started melmet
