Lyrica Withdrawals Winging Off (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I'm wanting to hear from anyone who has winged off of lyrica after so many mths taking it. I have had it with the med. I've gained 35 lbs in 4 mths. I never gain wt. I have sever numbness in hands and feet and swolleness. It's scary! I ran out one time with out getting refill, though I'd just stop it and start another tx. Well very wrong. I got so sick. I was having withdrawels and I had to get back on it. At the time it was worth getting back on it quickly to feel better. Plus the other side effects hadn't kicked in yet and not so severely. I'm worried it will be difficult to get off of it.

I have tried to get off of Lyrica TWICE and I just can't do it. I've gotten my dosage down to 100 MG twice a day. Once it quit taking it and got really sick ( like the flu) then I realized it was the Lyrica. so I asked my pain management Dr. what to do - he said take 100 mg in the morning, then 75 mg at night - continue that for a week, the do 75 mg twice a day, for a week, then 75 mg in morning, then 50 mg at night. Keep doing this for as long as it takes - but I get so weak and tired. Why does it make you so weak and tired!!!! I too have gained weight and I don't have the energy I used to have. Lyrica does work well for nerve pain, but I wish the Dr. had warned me about the ADDICTION !!!! No one told me how hard it is to get off of. I gave up !!!

OMG!!! I was desperate to take anything that worked for spine injury & extensive nerve pain. Doc didnt do me the righteous favor of explaining Lyrica to me,i sure hope he has to use it one day!... Yellowish bulging eyeballs got my attention after about a year this of taking this garbage. thought it was good for about 6 mths, beside steady weight gain & sum loss of balance for an hr or so after taking each capsule. started to notice yellow tint in whites of eyes and sum bulging. It came and went for a few weeks but got worse, it actually lead to hallucinations & noises in my head along with tinitis. i was losing grip. My wife is a Nurse, so she did some checking online about getting off this s***, and was horrified to see so many people struggling to be off this poison and some of the long lasting side affects you suffer even after you have stopped. I tapered off over a 5 month period, reducing amounts down to where i was opening the capsule and dividing it into 2, then 3 parts. i suffered with slight hallucinations and an od static sounding noise that came and went for the following year or so till i felt better, and i forgot to mention the awful depression spells that were part of the lovely joy ride too. i now use low dose of gabapentin for the nerve pain. has done fine with me for 2 years now. After all the Horrible individual testimonies i have seen online and the nightmare I suffered for myself, i think the makers should be sued, and made to take their own drug for clinical studies and data on the effects of lyrica over long term...

Lyrica is difficult to get off of. I too gained weight and have drowsiness. I've tried twice to decrease my dose. I've gone from 150 mg/2X a day to 100 mg/ 2X a day. Did pretty well - had some withdrawal, but not bad. Headache, nausea, tired feeling. but once I dropped to 75 mg/2X a day - WOW - THE withdrawal would never end. I had the worse headache and felt bad for 2 weeks!!! I couldn't stand it any longer - went back to 100 mg/2X a day. I don't know how to get off this drug!!! I guess the decrease can only be maybe 10 mg at a time - but you are right, the withdrawal is horrific!!! They should take this drug off the shelves and tell patients how physically addictive it really is!!! If you find an answer, let me know.

I was on this horrible drug for about 3-4 months. weight gain, swollen ankles, hands so numb they hurt in the mornings had to shake them awake, joint pain in the knees and in the feet so bad they would give out on me in the mornings when I first got up, brain fog, and I would practically have to give birth to be able to pee. I got off by switching straight over to an old prescription of gabapentin I had left. Its been two months now since stopping and slowly, very slowly things are improving. My feet still give out on me first thing in the mornings and my knees are a little better. My hands are not quite as numb when I wake up. The brain fog is gone. I am just worried that the damage is permanent. I was in the bathroom constantly peeing for about two days straight getting rid of all the fluid I retained on this drug. Now I am in the process of weaning off the gabapentin.

Yes - I too tried to get off of Lyrica. SAme thing happened to me. Weight gain, appetite increased - no numbness though. when I tried to stop - I ran out too and got sick - like I had the flu and A HORRIBLE HEADACHE. So I went back on it and felt find. Now I take it for sciatica (nerve pain down leg) and it really helps my nerve pain. I talked to my Dr about getting off of it and he said it works so well on my nerve pain, to keep taking it. I think he is right, but I'd like to be able to run out of it and not worry about getting sick !!!! I don't know what to do. The drug does work for some. I'd talk to your Dr. show him the swelling.

I had been on lyrical and cymbalta for fibromylagia. After 5 years and lots of weight gain, other side effects and not helping with pain I decided to try weaning myself off. Of course with the doctor's ok. Imp now off of both but since decreasing for over 2 months I'm still having withdrawals. These have included headache-upset stomach-throwing up I've even stopped drinking coffee and drinking soda. I've lost about 20 lbs and my sense of smell seems better. I know I will feel better but not sure how much longer I have to go through this. Since the meds I was on quite working for the fibromylagia I Know it will get better. I have back surgery scheduled in 3 weeks so I. Want to b physically fit for it.

Hello - I am a fellow LYrica user for nerve pain in my lower back. it works for my pain, but I tried to stop taking it, due to the cost. When I stopped, I got very sick, like the flu, with a horrible headache !!! Then I realized it was the lyrica. I got a refill and took my pill, and immediately I was well again !!! I got scared and called my Dr. he said to wean off slowly. So I tried that - well that didn't work either. I didn't get as sick, but I got weak and tired. I had to be able to work, so I had to get back on the lyrica. Now I think I'm stuck with Lyrica the rest of my life. I'm with you - it's scary to be hooked on this drug. What is it doing to our brains? Plus that headache I got was severe. I don't know the answer.

It's a slow difficult process, but life is so much better once you're off it. This drug permanently damages your body.

The same thing happened to me. I tried to go off Lyrica on my own, and that was a big mistake, I was so sick. I hate to go back on again. My doctor is trying to tell me that this drug is not addictive, but I don't believe that anymore. I have also gained alot of weight but didn't know why. I am now on weightwatchers and I am starting to wean myself off this drug.

I am taking 30 mgs. of morphine sulphate 6x a day along with 150 mgs of Lyrica 2x a day for chronic neck pain. I used to take 30 mgs of temazepam (Restoril) at night, but have stopped because, one morning about 3 weeks ago, I walked into my kitchen and there was food packages all over the floor. I also had a severe burn on my arm, but had no idea where it came from, or how the food got out of the cabinets! My husband told me that I had gotten up and done the damage myself. He managed to turn off the stove that was turned on, but not before my arm had been burned.
Needless to say, I stopped the sleeping pill that night. I had been on it for years, so it was 5 days before I went to sleep. I am now sleeping for maybe 3-4 hours a night, but only after 2 or 3 days of not sleeping at all. During the day, I bump into things, and start dreaming in the middle of conversations. It's pretty wierd. Has anyone heard of this? I've suffered from insomnia since I was 3, and am 54 years old, so I know it's not going to kill me, but I'd love some sleep. I'd also like to stop dreaming during the day and resume driving.
