Lunesta For Middle-of-the-night Insomnia
UpdatedI've suffered from MOTN for many years and have used Sonata. I also tried 3mg Lunesta and took it before bed. I know that Lunesta is for use when you have 7-8 available for sleep. I wonder, however, whether I could split a pill down to about 0.5mg and take it when I have 4 hours available for sleep. Thanks

Hi Jimmy,
From what I've researched, Lunesta is supposed to reach its peak concentration about 1 hour after it kicks in and is reported to have an estimated elimination half life of 6 hours. This means that it'll take 6 hours from the time that you took it until half of the dose is no longer working in your body. So my guess is that if you only had 4 hours available you'd still feel it for a couple hours afterwards before "coming down" so to speak. But taking a fraction of a dose seem like a feasible approach (in my opinion) for having a lesser affect on your body within that 6 hour period before it tapers down.
Does anyone else have thoughts on this?
