Lowered My Pain Meds

Failed first oral swab test in 3 years. I am a 61 year old disabled man. My Dr. assistant lowered my medication from 2 morphine sulfate 15 mg daily & 3 roxicodones 30 mg also daily. Have now been cut to only the 2 morphine sulfates 15mg er. With this large drop off the doctor said I wouldn't feel withdrawal but after about 6 to 7 hours I do. They only gave me 14 pills for 7 days. For my body chemistry I would have needed 3 of them a day to make it. They are now currently waiting for a note from a psychiatrist specialist in addiction. I don't smoke or drink but they claimed their was cocaine & heroin in the assay. Can mistakes happen and why see me in 7 days? What do they think I am, a raving drug addict? I'm clean cut, educated, speak well and do not seem to be in a fog, so what's their motive? Any ideas?

The sad truth is despite your innocence you are screwed. Talk to your MD about this not the assistant, you may get lucky. It's inhumane, regressive, and harmful to you. Keep documentation of everything. When you have pain describe it in detail in a journal. Rate the duration and intensity of the pain. Do this consistently with withdrawal symptoms too. Don't stop until this situation is completely resolved.. you must have proof and a journal is held in high regard by the courts. The more the better. Dates/ Times/ your moods and the effects. Be sure to include changes, increases , decreases or anything related to your pain and medications. Describe the effect on your daily routine in this journal. The more you do this the more ammunition you have proof that something is deadly wrong with that decision. Of course first try to get it changed where you are not feeling withdrawal and pain. YES. Labs and pharmacies make mistakes all the time. Contamination and mix ups are rampant. It's carelessness because now they are ordering so many of these tests it's difficult to keep them safe from mistakes. Pharmacies out of this country have little oversight for quality control.
Insist and be consistent that this is a huge deleterious mistake and it's a worse mistake to not be believed. Emphasis mistake, error, incident. Those words get attention. In normal times they will give you the benefit of the doubt but now the mindset is everyone taking any sort of controlled substance is a criminal addict. It doesn't matter if you are 10 years old or 95 years old.. you are suspect if there was an error in your tests. Don't roll over, if its true, fight it like the devil. If it comes down you can't take it anymore.. get a malpractice attorney. It's an awful shame it has to come to that, but it's the attorneys that write health care policy now, not the MD's or Nurses. You have to fight the law, errors, mistakes and incidents with lawyers. Check to see if you've signed an arbitration only clause with your health care provider. This is a slimy tactic where they trick people to give up their legal rights when, if they were adequately informed they would never have done such a thing. Explain that to the court too. If you are too disabled to do all this hard work then find someone to help you. This will only deteriorate further unless somebody says enough already! I don't see enough people standing up for themselves. I have no doubt it's the truth because I see this happening too frequently. take care.
