Loss Of Smell

I had been prescribed Lyrica for post herpetic neuropathy following a bout of shingles. Shortly there after I started having imaginary smells and then lost my sense of smell completely. I was informed that I have a condition called anosmia. My doctor recently informed me that there have only been 17 other cases reported relating a connection between Lyrica and loss of smell. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It hasn't been mentioned on our site previously, but it is a very, very rare effect that can happen with some medications, including Lyrica.

It is, sometimes, reversible if the medication causing it is stopped. Has your doctor suggested your trying something else?

I took Lyrica for about 6 months......significantly relieved my neurogenic pain, however, I lost my sense of smell. Four years later, it has not returned...saddened that I can no longer savor food as aI once did.

i took Lyrica for six consecutive months about four year ago. I began to experience phantom smells throughout the day.....I have now lost my sens of smell completely.
