Doc switched from benicar 40 mg to losartan 100 mg. Is this equivalent dosage?

Yes, that is the correct equivalent dosage. Each 20mgs of Benicar is equivalent to 50mgs of Losartan.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
