Losartan Concerns About Cough
(Newest replies first)

Losartan is one of way too many unsafe drugs my husband has been given. He's a child of the 60s and 70s so he thinks 'goody uppers and downers'. You know the remedy in a bottle. I'm always voicing my opinion to him yet he refuses to self educate and his lingering cough might be a very dreadful side effect of Losartan or any other med. So far this one looks like the culprit. Bad thing is he phoned in a new app and told them. Naturally they have their script pad out waiting to add more meds to his already poorly polluted body. This is disheartening. I've emailed him criteria to read. He loves to read. Books! Nothing meaningful tho. :( One med even said it has an FDA black box warning. *big sigh* No idea. I married him and in sickness and health but others shouldn't be making him sick knowingly and him allow it. I'm sorry to drown on. I lost family members in this way. My heart goes out to anyone with these medical conditions and these truly horrible dangers in trying to treat them. (I have plenty of medical issues too but went off 4 meds some yrs ago. I could. They honestly would push them on me if I gave them a chance, now. In my teen years there were people who did that then too. In the streets. Drug pushers. These are sad times).

I can relate to your husband. I'm in Australia, also a child of the 60s and 70s. Yes, times have changed. I'm 70 years old and don't know how I got this old, lol. I've developed COPD, asthma, etc., and am on a strong painkiller for an accident—I fell off my daughter's pony years ago. Now, they have me on corticosteroids for my coughing lungs. I'm really confused about all these meds, just like your husband is. I find it very hard trying to talk to my doctor to try and find out what these meds do, or if they are doing anything at all. Nothing seems to work. Every night, I've got to cough to clear my lungs. Plus, now I'm super paranoid about COVID. I don't think my lungs would handle another problem. I really don't know what to do. Also, I've smoked for over 50 years, plus living in the 70s took its toll. My doctor told me quitting cigarettes probably would not change a thing, just make me more stressed out. I think I know what your husband feels. Good luck. Any info appreciated.
You only mentioned the cough and one medication, could you please provide more details?
What conditions are being treated, and what other medications is he taking? Can you please post back with more information?
Some blood pressure medications can cause coughing as a side effect, it's usually a dry cough, but once it starts it doesn't go away, and the person must try a different medication.
Ref: Losartan Information
Cough can be a side effect of the Losartan, according to FDA warnings, and other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and hypertension.
As to the black box warning, that doesn't mean that no one should take the medication, but that they should be aware of the potential hazards of doing so.
Can anyone advise him, my husband, on how he should start to remedy this? The doc might not work with him to scale down on drugs, they went from 3 different meds routinely, to about 7 now. Only since he went to a new medical establishment.
Any advice greatly appreciated. I'll send him this link.
