Losartan And Severe Joint Pain
UpdatedI have been on Losartan for about 6 months now and can't take it anymore. I am having pain in all of my joints and it now has moved to my sternum. My doctor can't believe it is from the medication, but surprise.....when I don't take it I feel fine. It usually takes a few weeks to get out of my system. I had to do the same thing with another HBP medicine before. Losing weight, eating right, and exercising is the only way to go. Don't keep financing the Pharmaceutical companies.

Hello, Lesley! How are you feeling now? I'm sorry that the Losartan was making you miserable. It really sounds like you don't have a very understanding doctor.
I have been there and didn't find any BP medications that I could take, without becoming miserable, until I found a doctor that understood how sensitive some people can be to drugs. And since you were still experiencing it after 6 months of use, it wouldn't be considered an actually side effect, but a hypersensitivity reaction.
Unfortunately, not everyone can control their blood pressure with just weight loss, eating right and exercise. I wish that were true. Sometimes, it just raises due to genetics, or organ/blood vessel damage from other medical conditions, or medications and drugs are the only way to control it. Not everyone that has high blood pressure is overweight, eats badly and is sedentary.
It is very important that you keep an eye on yours and make sure that you are keeping it at normal levels, if you're opting not to take other medications to treat it. Some issues that cause hypertension could result in a very sudden and rapid elevation that could be dangerous. So you need to check it regularly. Also make sure to check in with your doctor regularly and let them know that you've stopped your medication.
If you do need to take one again, in the future, there are several that are known to cause less problems than others and they are what my doctor finally resorted to with me, after trying many others, I'll toss in links to them for you, just in case.
