Losartan And Heart Rate?
UpdatedJust started on Losartan , previously was on lisinopril that didnt do anything to lower BP. After 3 days on Losartan I noticed my resting heart rate in now 100+… previously was 65 to 70 on any given day.. I was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks for Losartan to fully be in my system to see a change. Will my heart rate get lower once the med takes effect or is something wrong?

Hello, Dom! How are you?
The higher heart rate could be due to stopping the Lisinopril, if you stopped abruptly and switched to the Losartan, it may have caused a rebound effect that can include elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. However, it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure.
If the Losartan works for you, you should eventually see an improvement in your heart rate. My heart rate tends to be problematic and is usually higher than the average of most people, generally in the early 80's, but occasionally I hit 90 or over 100. But, I used to always be over 100, before I started taking Atacand (which is Candesartan) and later switched to Losartan myself.
If 65 to 70 is your normal resting rate, then you should definitely keep an eye on it and seek immediate medical attention if it starts to hit dangerous levels. It's something that really must be based on the person, rather than any given average. Some athletes have very low resting heart rates, so while we can say that a certain rate is average, there's no way to apply that to everyone.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of Losartan as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
How often do you check your blood pressure and heart rate?
thanks for the reply… yes my doctor told me to stop taking lisinopril and start on losartan… didnt say anything about slowly getting off lisinopril.. i had no side effects on Lisinopril, but it just didnt produce any results at all.. as i said been on losartan now for 4 days and im sure its not in my system yet but i feel 100% better. BP looks decent 132/84 im hope it might get a little less but so far so good.. you mentioned you were on atacand and now on losartan… may i ask why the switch.. i know its way expensive..The reviews seems that losartan is a good drug only time will tlel i guess
Hi, I am 65 years with high blood pressure of 180/100 before and I have been taking losartan 25mg for 9 days now,,, my hbp has drop to 120/80 yet for some my heart rate has goes up to over 100!! I thought drug like this are suppose lower your heart rate as well? Can I lower my dose to 1/2 of 25mg per day? Would that help my heart rate ? I don't take any other drugs but do take supplements such as fish oil and coq10
Losartan caused my heart rate to go to 120-140 (my normal is 60) about 2 hours after taking it, every day. My doctor took me off, ever since the heart rate stays low as it should be. Tried to go back on; heart rate went berserk. Did go off again, it stays low. Clear case of cause and effect.
I am having the exact same symptoms with a high heart rate after starting Losartan + 12.5 HCL 100mg per/day. I have never had high blood pressure, that I am aware of, and recently went into hypertensive crisis.. 180/120. My BP would not go down for days so they started me on Losartan. It did not touch it at 50mg a day so they increased it to 100mg + HCL 12.5. After several weeks I am now at 120/89 BP on average. Note: I am a 46 yr old male. I was fairly fit, not overweight, worked out, mt. biked and resting HR was around 62. Now it is shoots up to 120 beats per min and is in general erratic over 100. I also have had shortness of breath and general fatigue, never an issue before. This is not a good prescription for me and I will follow up with my Dr. soon for a change. I have been on it now for a month. Fatigue has reduced but I am still short of breath when I just walk up stairs. The HR increase has me concerned and now to top it off I have ED.
I'm the same way..heart rate on 25 mg metoprolol every twelve hrs ran low 50 s and 60s.. now losartan 25 mg daily .heart rate jumps to 100 to 110 just moving around a little.. what's up with this.
Hi, I have been taken Losartan 50 mg and my pulse rate reading is so low (50 to 43). Is that normal for a 54 year old woman?
