Lortab Discharged From Hospital

Updated

I was given a lortab 10, basically kicked out of the hospital, and told to wait for my ride in the rain. My question is whether there is a law governing the time after given a narcotic that the hospital has to monitor me for any bad reactions?

The emergency room is supposed to keep an eye on you for at least an hour (give or take) before discharging you.. however with oral medications versus I.V. medications it could be different. Have you ever been prescribed Norco before?

There is really no set time frame for this, they can dismiss any patient, at any given time, as long as that person is stable at the time, and not in immediate life threatening danger.

While most will monitor someone for awhile, they are not obligated to do so, and they may have various reasons for moving someone out faster, especially with a pandemic going on, at this time. They may also accelerate if a patient has taken this medication, before, without any adverse effects.

What reason did they give for kicking you out? Did they forcefully kick you out, or were you just dismissed from their care?

The FDA warns that Lortab carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Certainly they didn't give you something you hadn't taken before; they must have given you opiates in the hospital & you tolerated it. I was given a shot of Demerol 2 minutes before walking out of the hospital with a newborn in my arms - no wheelchair. THAT was scary.

Not that I know of, they actually call the police on people at my local hospital if they discharge them and they don’t leave. Then they trespass you and arrest you if you come back. So none of us mess with them. They’ve discharged me when I have been so unwell I just have my ride bring me to a different ED.

If you didn’t have a bad reaction, this hardly seems worth causing a problem.
All that will accomplish is it will make that Hospital not dispense pain meds in the ED.
Let’s not ruin it for everyone.
