Looking For Methadone Doctor In Jacksonville Fl

Hi all. I'm really hoping someone here can help me. I suffer from a protruding disc and degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I've been in pain management programs since 2011. At one point, my oxy use got to the point where I was using 100+mg daily. Once I realized that I couldn't continue on the path that I was on, I voluntarily got myself in to a suboxone/subutex program in Jacksonville, Fl. Right away, I realized that I couldn't take the suboxone because of the headaches that it gave me, but the subutex worked amazing for withdrawls and does help to make the pain more manageable. Now that I've been on it for nearly 8 months months, I've been considering methadone as an alternative because my insurance only agreed to pay for the subs for up to one year. I REALLY don't want to go back to using oxy, but I know that I will if it comes down to that or the horrible pain that I was experiencing daily. The subs doctor and nurse that I've been seeing for nearly 8 months have been GREAT to me since day 1, but I know that neither are big on MMT. I've brought it up on a couple of occasions, but I don't know if that is an avenue that the doc would consider. If they don't consider the possibility of switching me to methadone - and my insurance cuts me off of the subutex in May - I do intend to try and find a good methadone doc as opposed to going back on oxycodone. I have a family that relies on me and a job. Does anyone know of a good methadone doc in the Jax area that they could recommend? I would greatly appreciate any feedback one might have. Thank you.

Hello, Ron! How are you? Kudos for getting help! Way to go!!!

As to the Methadone, your Suboxone doctor can't prescribe it for you, since they have the waiver to treat with Suboxone and that's their specialty. The same is true of those that treat with Methadone, they are restricted to treating just with it. This was done to try to keep doctors and clinics from getting too overwhelmed with patients, there are even set numbers of patients they can have, per doctor.

And there actually isn't a Methadone doctor that you could hunt up, per se, it is only allowed to be given for addiction treatment in a clinical setting, so that's what you'd have to look for, a treatment clinic in your area. You won't be able to have it prescribed for addiction from a private doctor.

Does anyone know of a good clinic in that area that they can suggest?

I've been prescribed suboxone but can't take it. I'm afraid to ask the Dr I see this Thursday to switch me to methadone. I'm from Toledo, Oh and started at Sept center a week ago. Anyone familiar with this center and would it be a bad ideal to ask for methadone instead?
