Looking Up Prescription History

I am a little concerned about my daughter abusing certain types of medication. Is there any website(Walgreens, CVS, or any website you know of) where I can look up to see what types of medication she is taking. I do not know where she gets her prescription, but do have her personal info of course since I am her mother. There has to be some way to check this out. Any advice is appreciated. She denies taking pills, but we have found empty containers, and she has talked about killing herself.

Unless she is a minor no pharmacist will give you here information. Her prescription history is protected by privacy laws and if you use her information to portray yourself as her you would be breaking the law.

That said I commend you for being so concerned and involved. I just don't know how you could go about getting the information without her consent. Don't give up and keep talking to her, maybe you can get through to her that you are only concerned about her well being and want to help. I wish you all the luck in the world!

In this case, I have to say that Jason is correct, under current HIPAA laws, if she is over 18, there is nothing you can do and you cannot be provided with such information from a medical professional, without her permission.

Was there any information on the empty containers you found? That is something that could be researched, without breaking the law, I can also look up markings on pills, or capsules for you.

As to talking about killing herself, that is something you can do something about. While a doctor is not allowed to share her information with you, if she is a legal adult, you can share things with them to alert them to the problem. Thus, if you discover what doctor she is seeing, or call for help due to suicide threats, they can listen to you and take it seriously. It might seem like something that you don't want to do to your child, but if it comes down to our kids, or death, I think involving others is the best thing to do.
