Long Term Usage Discontinued
UpdatedI have been on Nitrofurantoin 100 mg every other day for many years. I have a history of a staghorn calculus and multiple urinary tract infections. I have not had any infections in the past 2 years. I am having difficulty refilling the medication now that my Endo Dr will no longer fill it, my urologist retired and my PCP never ordered it. My urologist wanted me on it permanently to prevent issues. So is stopping it a good idea? Should I just wait and if I get new symptoms then go to my PCP for new treatment and possibly restart?

I can't say whether it is a good idea, since I am not a doctor, but it really sounds like you do need to be a long-term preventative.
Why will your endo no longer prescribe it for you?
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, and diarrhea.
Are you on any other medications?
