Hello, Lynne! How are you?
Not all damage may be immediately noticeable, some medications tend to cause problems very slowly and no one notices, until it's too late.
There have been some cases of people developing peripheral neuropathy from long-term use of it, anywhere from 2 to 10 years, which means that they also took it for a long time, without any issues. Thus, if your doctor thinks you should stop taking it and switch to something else, then it would be best to follow their advice.
The FDA lists the other side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea and loss of appetite.
Is there anything else I can help with?
I went to a specialist last week and he wants to do a stress test and ECG If all is normal in my heart he definitely wants to gradually take me off flecainide. You mentioned neuropathy, I have been having some strange stuff happening. Like when I'm on my iPad my right hand will twitch while hovering over the display and while sitting my right leg will twitch too. Could this be from the flecainide? Thought maybe I had a pinched nerve.
Well my Drs conferred and after stress test and ECG they have advised me to gradually get off flecainide is that ok to do not being in hospital? Just kinda scared to stop something that I have been on for 14 years don't know what to expect
I have been taking FLECAINIDE for six yrs now and I have noticed that I am becoming very dry in the throat, nose, mouth and chest .I wonder does anyone else have these side effects I am suffering
I was just taken off flecanide acetate after taking it almost a year, because I developed a severely low sodium reading because the med was slowly depleting my sodium. My doctor saw my bloodwork readings and called me at home and said that I must go to the emergency room immediately because my sodium was dangerously low and I could start having seizures, or worse! Be aware of your sodium!!!!!
Couldn't agree more with you Brian (April 2016) . Dry mouth and eyes every morning and this will continue throughout the day. I make sure I'm hydrated so I doubt that's the reason. Started Fleconaide a few months ago and can only think this is the reason. Still get the odd heart shuffle (palps!) as if afib about to start.
