Lo Loestrin And Amoxicillin

I have been religiously taking Lo Loestrin Fe for 3 years and I recently got strep throat and was prescribed Amoxicillin. I'm in the middle of my pack and on the second day of taking the antibiotic I started a period which I usually don't get. I had unprotected intercourse on the third day and I'm wondering if I can get pregnant from it or if it's worth taking Plan B? I'm really afraid of the side effects of that though.

Lo Loestrin Fe (norethindrone acetate + ethinyl estradiol) being a form of birth control, should prevent or at least significantly lower the possibility of pregnancy - regardless of whether you're on an antibiotic.

Antibiotics may reduce bad (and good) bacteria within the body, but to my understanding should not interact with birth control or directly affect hormone levels in such a way that would cause concern.

That said, I personally don't think Plan B is necessary when you're already taking birth control. But if you're really concerned then perhaps it would be best to abstain from intercourse during your brief time on antibiotics (which are typically prescribed for 7-10 days).
