Lo Loestrin Fe And Continuous Bleeding (Page 5) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy!
i had a baby 12 weeks ago and started taking loestrin fe 1/20 for the first time. it will be 7 weeks tomorrow i have been taking it. i had my period 2 weeks ago and started again 2 days ago. i just want to know is this normal or should i be worried ?
I am towards the end of my second month on lo loestrin fe. I was put on this pill to solve an enlarged uterus and a thickened lining and to help regulate my hormones. I'm 41 and had my tubes blocked 3 years ago, so I don't really need the BC side of things. This pill was touted as a 'miracle cure' for all that ails you by my dr. I was excited to see the mild acne that started a few years ago FINALLY clear up...I was excited to think I wouldn't have to take herbal supplements everyday to help mood swings and night sweats...I was excited to think light periods or no periods at all. So far, acne is way worse; to the point where my husband told me maybe I should go see a dermatologist. I have horrendous mood swings and AWFUL depression! I don't want to do ANYTHING but sit in bed all day. I'm exhausted all the time but toss and turn all night, never able to get into a deep fitful sleep. And I have had constant bleeding for 2 months....well, that's a lie, I had 3 days right after what I think was the end of the first month period...And then I got ANOTHER period, horrible cramping that I ended up taking a vicodin for, heavy bleeding. It lightened a little and cramping stopped after 4 days, but STILL bleeding 2 weeks later! When I called the dr the first month, a snotty nurse told me it would take 2-3 months to regulate my system and to give it time...I had to practically shout to get her to understand I have never bleed like that before! She called me back and said the dr had reviewed my file and everything was fine. REVIEWED MY FILE??? How about reviewing ME? ARGH! I'm so frustrated! My husband is frustrated! Calling dr. again today. If she doesn't have me come in, I'm stopping the pill, I can't deal with this!
WOW! I thought I was the only one, thank goodness for this site!!
I'm at my wit's end, the reason I went to my OB was for controlling my heavy periods, and now I bleed constantly it is bright bleeding???!!! weekly!! I'm a healthy 40+ year old woman.
After reading the comments here, I made an appointment ASAP...no woman should go thru this "breakthru bleeding" at all. It's 2012 for god's sakes!
I'm on my second pack of Loestrin as well, no nausea, no mood changes, but I do have one gripe and that is the "bleeding". It's sooo annoying and aggravating.
How can a woman feel sexy when bleeding??!! Arrrrgh!
Thank you FDAOnwatch. I am definitely reporting this to the FDA. My cycle just started up AGAIN out of nowhere. I am early in week 2 of the pills! I see why this is birth control--you don't want to have sex when you are bleeding 24/7.
I am 19 years old and I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and PCOS. My OB gave me Lo Loestrin Fe to regulate my periods. I stared off fine then when I started like my 4th pill in my second week, I started bleeding heavier than i have ever done before when i had regular periods acouple years back, and i had unbareable pain. Now I am on my last pill of my second week and I am bleeding even heavier and the pain is still really bad. I don't know what to do and I can't afford to go to the hospital!
Just wanted to point out to everyone this thread is about Lo Loestrin Fe. Lo Loestrin Fe is a different pill from Loestrin 24.
I just had a visit with my doctor regarding the excessive bleeding and she immediately gave me samples of a new pill. She advised the estrogen level may be too low which causes the unpredictable bouts of bleeding. I also expressed to her symptoms of what I classify as premenopause. These symptoms could also be caused by the low level of estrogen. However I will wait a few weeks to see what happens with the pills. I suggest to request pills with a higher level of estrogen.
I've had the same constant bleeding issues with this pill, I've been on it for almost two months. I was put on it due to high blood pressure experienced with others. Now my calves are cramping horribly. My left calf actually felt like something popped and is swollen and painful, but my right on is now beginning to get sore too. I actually talked to a doctor of Physical Therapy in passing at work (at a hospital) about my left calf pain and he thought it was a torn popliteus muscle, which isn't that uncommon. But now it's later at night and both legs are hurting, although the left is still worse. And then it hit me, holy crap - what if it's blood clots from this new pill that I'm on? I am definitely calling the doctor first thing in the morning. DVT's are nothing to play around with. I will update again when I find something out!
I've taken Lo loestrin fe for almost a year now. The bleeding lasted for 4 weeks for me. And then. Nothing. No spotting. No breakthrough bleeding. absolutely nothing. And then I went on vacation... And forgot the pills at home. For a week. So now I've basically started from the beginning again.....
I just started taking this pill. Also im still bleeding oh no im done taking it uncomfortable bleeding going on two weeks to long for me.
I'm 19 and I was diagnosed with pcos jan 15th. The doctor prescribed lo loestrin fe and I've been taking it since feb.3rd. I started bleeding feb. 27th and have not stopped since! Before being on bcp I had like 2 periods a year. I don't know what to do and I'm starting to freak out! It's been 11 days of bleeding.
I was so bloated that I swear I looked like I was about 6-7 months pregnant when I was on the lo loestrin. I also struggled to have a BM on the meds. Between those issues an the constant bleeding and moodiness, I was miserable.
I went off of them completely since my husband had a vasectomy (YIPPEE!! Highly recommended!) When I went off the pills, I had just started another round of periods (I was getting a periods every 10-12 days). Once that period ended, my next period didn't arrive until about 5-6 weeks later. It was more like my normal old periods I had before pills. I noticed some of the side effects went away within a few weeks. About a month after being off the pills, I began to feel much better. So glad to be off those horrible things. Don't stay on them for 3 months. The docs say that, but they aren't the ones suffering with nearly constant periods.
Update re. LoLoestrin and continuous bleeding. I spoke w my doctor and few weeks after that went to a different dr for opinion and they agreed I should stay on the pill full 3 months before making a decision on what to do next. So I will stick it out and then see. The bleeding seems to be much less now and I'm hopeful that it will work out for me. My initial bloating subsided and now I'm free of other unpleasant symptoms other than continuous spotting. Looks like it works different for everyone. It's a guessing game and trial and error w these hormonal preparations!!!
*UPDATE* My bleeding never stopped, I got so fed up of hearing the "wait 3 months" that I went to a completely different ob/gyn practice. LADIES do NOT settle for feeling miserable for 3 months for your body to adjust. There's no need. If this doesn't work for you chances are something else WILL! The estrogen in the LoLoestrin was just too low for me. I have now switched to Chryselle (generic Lo/Ovral) and I feel GREAT. in 1 day I had no more bleeding. 3 days later I had no more bloating and my moodiness has completely gone away. and I FINALLY feel like having sex again. Definitely a necessary change. Good luck girls!
OMG same happened to me... I have been taking LoLestrin since February this year, took me 3 months to start controlling the bleeding, and then last month I forget to take the pill in the morning, the usual time, and take it in the evening the same day instead. The bleeding started the next day, and hasn't stoped 3 weeks now. Could it really be because of one pill taken 'late'? Really?
I stopped takin loloestrin and I have had constant bleeding for a year now since stopping it. My dr said its normal to bleed for a few months after stopping birth control but a year later this drug has messed up my body and my sex life and gave me depression while on it I think this medication should be banned
I started taking lo loestrine exactly 3 months ago and should be starting my 4th pack today but I will not be. I see why these are called birth control, because you're on your period the entire time! All 3 months, I had my period 3 times each month, I'd say I didn't have my period for a total of 7 days each month. After the first pack I called my doctor and was told everything should be normal once I finish the 2nd pack. Well everything continued through the 3rd pack so I called again also because I needed my prescription refilled and wasn't sure what I should do. I was told to try a 4th pack and see. I have never taken birth control before this, I just had a baby in February and don't want another one for awhile. I have always had the same period even once it started back up after the baby then it went crazy on these pills. Anyways, the last 3 weeks I've had horrible aching in my feet & legs and it's turned into numbess in certain spots. I went to the ER yesterday & they asked what I've done different and I told them about the pills. The nurse & doctor said DO NOT take another one of those pills! The doctor told me my issue could be caused by one other thing if its not from the pills but to stop taking them and see if things get better. So we'll see, either way I will not be taking these anymore.
I took them at the same time every day. I just went off the pills and NO bleeding, no more cramping, no fatigue, I feel 10x better! I'm now on Tri-nessa. These are a higher dose and working wonderfully!
Hi. I started taking loestrin due to ongoing bleeding prior to loestrin.i couldnt tell you if the prior bleeding was my actual period but i bled for 3 mnths prior to loestrin, the bleeding i had before was mostly light to normal bleeding. Loestrin caused heavy bleeding for a month strait. But im done my second row which i think means im on my second week of no bleeding. I hope it lasts untill the end of the month when hopefully it regulates my menstration. I hope you feel better soon and if not you should get some bloodwork done to make sure all ur levels are where they shud be take care
Hi there, I seem to be doing the same thing your period did. When did it stop? Did you stop that first month or did you just continue bleeding? Are you still taking it?
