Lisinopril Hctz Chronic Cough

Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium.

Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to):

L-Theanine
Magnesium Glycinate
Coenzyme Q10
Garlic
Hawthorn
Folic acid
Yoga
Meditating daily
Autogenic training
Aerobic exercise
Ayurvedic medicine
Various essential oils (aromatherapy)

You may even find that you don't need to take blood pressure meds after managing such changes in your diet and lifestyle. I just hope your cough improves sooner than later!

I have been taking Lisinopril for almost two years. About five months ago I got this cough that will not go away. It is there most horrible thing ever. Sometimes it sounds barky and sometimes I sound wheezy. It is by far the worst at night. I cannot hardly sleep. I have been to the doctor so many times I can’t count. I had three different rounds of both antibiotics and steroids. Each time the coughing would subside for a week or two but always to return. Yesterday I remembered two different friends telling me when I started taking it that they couldn’t take it because it made them cough. I had not even tied them together. I’m not sure if that is the problem but I decided to stop taking it and see what happens. Has anyone else had this sort of issue?
