Lisinopril Hctz 20/12.5 Withdrawal Symptoms

I had been taking 2 tablets of Lisinopril 20 + 12.5 mg HCTZ for almost 20 years. I'm now 60 years old and since my BP is under control, I asked my doctor to take me off the HCTZ. It's been only a week now and I have noticed swelling in my feet and ankles along with a reddish rash. I previously had no side effects from the HCTZ other than dry mouth and skin and frequent urination. Does anyone know if gradually decreasing the amount of HCTZ rather than just stopping abruptly would be a better alternative or if I'm just destined to take HCTZ for the rest of my life?

Your doctor just had you stop this medication abruptly?

If so, then yes, that's likely what's causing the problem, because it has been known to cause rebound effects, especially if you were taking it for that long and stopped without tapering.

There is also a good chance that your heart rate and blood pressure have both been elevated, as well.

Learn more Lisinopril details here.

Learn more Hydrochlorothiazide details here.

And as to your blood pressure being under control, if that was only because you were taking the medication, there's a chance it could remain elevated.

Have you ever consulted a cardiologist, so you can talk to someone that is specifically educated in this area?
