Lisinopril 2.5mg Efficacy
UpdatedI recently started taking Lisinopril 2.5mg about 2 weeks ago at bedtime. It was decided because I am so sensitive to medications to start on the lowest dose. It was suggested at this time because in the morning it is quite high. However, it is still high (this morning it was 155/95 and has been higher) but then it goes down throughout the morning and day. Why? Also, I've noticed that my mouth during the night is very, very dry and I wake up about 3 times per night to take a sip of water. Could this be causing the reading? Also, does it just take more time to begin to show a lowering of BP, especially in the morning?

It may take 4 to 5 weeks for this medication to reach its full level of efficacy in your body to see how well it will work for you. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and increased urination.
No, the sips of water will not cause the spikes, if you read various NIH articles, or speak to a cardiologist, you will learn that it is normal for your blood pressure to spike, when you first wake up and start moving about.
Are you on any other medications? What does your normal diet consist of? What are you BP readings later in the day?
Morning blood pressure can typically run higher with being dormant then the activity of getting up dressed etc along with having a morning coffee or tea or soda ..Caffeine is a stimulant which will raise blood pressure. I'm surprised your primary care Dr. did not explain the common sense reasons blood pressure can raise or lower? As the day goes on your blood pressure should stabilize unless you start exercising or walk or run, etc.
I also take lisinopril but I take 20 mg twice daily for high blood pressure and to protect my kidneys. Dry mouth is a very common side effect for this drug. As long as you don't develop a cough that won't go away you should he fine. That particular side effect indicates a problem with how the drug is working and you should talk with your doctor to stop taking it. I use the biotene spray to keep my mouth wet. Also lisinopril works in a different way than many blood pressure drugs. Its effects are not instant. It works on the kidney system to lower blood pressure so I many take some time to work.
I'm on a totally different drug, amlozaarH in the morning and nebilong 5mg, in the evening for the last 7months. What are some of the side effects I should expect from these medications? Am also on septrin960mg once a day.
