I enjoy a drink nightly. Will this prevent the pill from doing its job with my blood pressure? (mixed drinks or amaretto). ## Generally, you are warned not to take most medications with alcohol due to the possibility of it aggravating the side effects, such as the nausea and dizziness, because that can result in one drink actually affecting you like you had 2 and so on. Learn more Prinzide details here. With this combination, however, there are some additional concerns, if you are limiting yourself to just one or two drinks, it can actually cause some lowering of your blood pressure, as well, so you have to be careful to watch for signs of that, such as feeling severely dizzy, especially when moving or standing up. The Hydrochlorothiazide is also a diuretic that removes excess fluid fro...

I had been taking 2 tablets of Lisinopril 20 + 12.5 mg HCTZ for almost 20 years. I'm now 60 years old and since my BP is under control, I asked my doctor to take me off the HCTZ. It's been only a week now and I have noticed swelling in my feet and ankles along with a reddish rash. I previously had no side effects from the HCTZ other than dry mouth and skin and frequent urination. Does anyone know if gradually decreasing the amount of HCTZ rather than just stopping abruptly would be a better alternative or if I'm just destined to take HCTZ for the rest of my life? ## Your doctor just had you stop this medication abruptly? If so, then yes, that's likely what's causing the problem, because it has been known to cause rebound effects, especially if you were taking it for ...

I had used lisinopril/hct for 20 years. It started off with one pill per day, but ten years ago doc prescribed 2 pills per day. It combatted my hypertension. As it turned out, I also had hepatitis C for about 30 years. When I finally was cured of HEP C, six months ago, the hypertension went away and I had some night-time incidents when I woke up with severe shortness of breath. So, I stopped taking the Lisinopril six weeks ago. My blood pressure has been unusually low - like around 100/68 and I don't know how to raise it. I am still having shortness of breath and have been having a severe allergic/itchy skin reaction that is unbearable. Doctor doesn't believe I have withdrawal effects from lisinopril. She has not prescribed anything to increase my blood pressure. Lots of doc vis...

Hello, A family member of mine has a prescription of 10mg lisinopril once a day. Recently the pharmacy accidentally gave her a pack of 20mg tablets that she has been taking (thinking they were 10mg) for around 2 weeks. So her doseage has been 10mg for around a year, then accidentally switched to 20mg for 2 weeks. No side effects have been noticed. Is it ok for her to just go back to 10mg now she has realised? What is not allowed while taking lisinopril; food, drugs or drinks. ## Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, you should be informed to avoid food or beverage products that contain real licorice or licorice extract, since it can raise blood pressure. The only food/beverage interaction is that you should watch out for items that contain very high levels of potassium. Getting to much potassium, while taking Lisinopril can lead to Hyperkalemia, which can be a dangerous condition. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach pain. Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx? ## Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to): L-Theanine Magnesium Glycinate Coenzyme Q10 Garlic Ha...

I have been taking 10 mg/day of Lisinopril for 3 months and have developed a tightening in the chest and flu like symptoms. Within the past 3 weeks I have felt progressively worse and would like to stop. Is it ok to just quit or must I wean myself off? ## Lisinopril is used to help control high blood pressure. That said, most of these medications can cause dangerous rebound effects if you have been on them for a period of time and abruptly stop taking them, this can include increased blood pressure and heart rate, with the risk of heart attack and stroke. The side effects that you are experiencing are normal for this class of medications, you may also experience headache and dizziness. If it is getting worse, however, and not tapering off, you should speak to your doctor immediately abo...

My lisinopril (90 day supply, just opened) will expire in 1.5 months. Can I finish it off or do I have to destroy it at the end of January? ## Hello, Lynne! How are you? This medication does not become dangerous once expired, but it may start to lose effectiveness. Thus, in reality, disposing of it, once it expires would be the best thing to do, however, you may want to ask your doctor and pharmacist if you can still finish it, since its loss of effectiveness will most likely be minimal by then. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How long after the expiration date of lisinopril can you still take it? ## That’s bull about disposing it on the expera...

I took 20 mg Lisinopril a second time instead of 50 mg Atenolol. Supposed to take the Lisinopril once daily and the Atenolol twice. Am I okay? ## If you are concerned then you should call poison control at (800) 222-1222. From what I was reading, the biggest risk would be your blood pressure dropping too low (hypotension). However, taking only one additional dose may not cause that for you. Here is a pdf with more information: ACE Inhibitor Overdoses I hope this helps and please report back with your outcome.

I've taken 10mg Lisinopril with success for 9 days. Lowered my BP from 140s/90s to low 100s/low 70s. But on days 6-9 my BP was going down to 98/65 different times of the day, with some slight lightheadedness, no coughing. I was worried it would keep trending lower, especially while sleeping, and cause more dizziness. So my Dr gave me a 5mg RX. One day on that dose and I already noticed my BP going higher (High 130/high 80, low 90s). Now that I know I get better readings with 10mg I want to switch back. So my question is, is it ok that I went one day with 5mg and will go back to 10mg the next day? I was going to take another 5mg 12 hrs after my first dose but wasn't sure if that was ok? ## It really takes about 4 to 5 weeks, at one steady dosage, for Lisinopril to reach its full ...

I was wondering if it was ok to take those 3 meds at the same time? Lisinopril 10mg, Amlodipine 10mg, and Atorvastatin 20mg? ## They can be taken together, as long as your doctor approves. However, the FDA warns that you may experience more severe side effects, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache, joint/muscle aches, and lower blood pressure. How are you doing taking this combination? Are you on any other medications? ## I havent had any side effects at all actually i feel a lot better ## When taking a combination of meds, your safest resource is your Pharmacist. I take 1 Lisinopril at 10:30 am, 1 Amlodipine at 3:50 pm, and another Lisinopril at 10:15 pm ... BUT, I accidently switched the 3:50 dose of Amlodipine and took the Lisinopril. Is there a cause for concern? I am a 58 year old female who suffered 2 TIAs. I also have carotid stenosis, left atrial enlargement, and diabetes type 2. Please advise. ## There shouldn't be any reason for concern, unless your doctor feels otherwise, but you should skip the next dose, so you don't end up taking too much of the Lisinopril. As a matter of fact, most people take Lisinopril as a once daily dose, rather than splitting the dosage, since it tends to help people remember to take it, if they don't have to remember repeated dosages. Taking too close together with the previous dose may increase s...
