Life Insurance Questions

I am 31 and have a life insurance policy where I am a "non-smoker" (I know, bad move) I want to get Chantix and quit smoking, but am worried that my life insurance company can find out about the prescription and deny any future benefits should i kick the bucket. Any truth in this?
I realize this question is very off topic, but couldnt find an answer anywhere. Thanks in advance.

I think It's probably going to be rather difficult to give a completely accurate answer to this without actually working for the insurance company and having access to their list of policies.

Honesty is always the best policy in my opinion, since things do eventually come full-circle if you believe in karma. Not to say that this is a bad thing, but I'd probably use other more natural methods to help you quit smoking, before applying for the life insurance. That way there's no question as to whether or not you can get it in the very near future.

I know everyone's different, but many individuals who quit smoking have actually had great results using acupuncture as a treatment option.

For others, there are prescription medications such as Chantix (Varenicline), that are said to be used along side counseling to help people stop smoking. Drugs like this are in a class of medications called smoking cessation aids. They work by blocking the pleasant effects of nicotine (from smoking) on the brain; however some people question their overall effectiveness due to the side effects/withdrawal symptoms that are commonly associated with prescription drugs in general. With Chantix, you're not only withdrawing from smoking, but also the drug itself; which can be tough for some individuals.

Lastly, I'd like to mention that there are people out there who do quit cold turkey and experience some temporary withdrawal symptoms as a result. Although everyone is different, I can speak from personal experience of observing a close family member who had been smoking chronically for the last 40 years or so and had quit cold turkey just recently. He is age 60 now and had only experienced about a week or so of flu-like symptoms. A year and a half will have passed as of this summer and he claims to have no cravings whatsoever for cigarettes. He attributes his success to quitting by putting mind over matter and swears that if he could do it after 40 years, then anyone can. I know this is a bit more personal, but I promised to share his testimony to those who are trying to quit as well, in hopes of helping someone else take control over this addicting and dangerous substance. The mind is a very powerful tool. Much stronger than many have come to realize.
