Depending on the doses and frequency taken, Diazepam can stay in your system from between 20 to 200 hours (1 to 8 days).

i took vallium for a long period and it took 6 weeks to get out of my system, so taking it once or twice takes anywhere between a few days and 2 weeks depending on how many taken and how bad a state your liver is in

33yr old woman, extremely fit, Height: 174cm Weight: 60 kg
I took Diazapam for insomnia; 10mg for a period of 2 years.
I started off with a dosage of 5mg at night and as the drug started to loose its effect i ended up the last 6 months, taking up to 80mg a day throughout the day. There is no where on the internet that can tell you its exact half life in your body. Please be aware that even though Diazapam might have a half life in your BLOOD from 12 to 200 hours, the drug is ALSO stored in your fatty tissues, Brain included and also in your bones. I had to go to a detox clinic for 7 days and go cold turkey (i collapsed on day 2) and have now spent the last 3 months with ALL the abstinence effects, both phycological & physical described on specific websites, in absolute hell.
I was prescribed the drugs Lyrica ( to counteract the abstinence pain in nerve endings and the agonising muscle pain, inc. my heart and for when any muscle just seized up all of a sudden. It feels like when u get a dead leg but with 10 times amount of pain) and also the drug Deprax which is an anti depresive drug.
The great thingnow is that i have been 9 days off the drug Lyrica and am now going through all the abstinence effects of coming off that which are just as bad, but alot less intense.
Oh, while i was in detox they did me a complete body check up; lung scan, heart scan, blood, liver and kidney tests etc and i am completely ok. The only thing that was wrong with me is that my red blood cell count was down and for that they prescribed hydroxil which is basically just vitamin B6, B12 & B. They also gave me Folic acid pills, which apparently helps irrigate the brain etc.
From my experience and what the doctors have told me, for up to how long Diazapam remains in your body (muscles and fatty tissues) depends on your level of fitness (the way your body metabolizes substances)which contributes to the elimination of the drug in your body, your weight and the dosage you were taking and for how long ; its not the same taking 80 mg a day when up to 90% of that can be stored, as taking a small amount of 2.5mg a day. This of course is considering that the person is healthy with no major health problems and that are not taking any other drugs for other things.
After 3 months i have now got rid of most of the abstinence symptoms, but have been told that it can take up to 12-18 mths to fully recover my cognital skills, memory and speech.
Sleeping is still a problem, but compared to what ive been through, it doesn´t even bother my anymore if i only sleep 4 or 5 hours a night.

Janet, my advice is to stop taking the drug A.S.A.P.
Even though alot of web sites do no recommend going cold turkey, i went ahead and did it here (Spain) in a social security clinic and i was extemely closely monitored for the whole 7 days and even though i felt apprehensive, drugged out, sick etc, i still got through it with no lasting scars and i felt secure at all times.
I had tried to taper it down by myself in the past and after 2 weeks, usually when some problem arrised, i just started upping the dosage yet again.

Like i said before, i have now been 3 months off the evil diazapam and though i am probably going through the worst time in my life at the moment, emotionally and financially, i still have absolutely NO wish WHATSOEVER to start taking Diazapam again. To be quite frank, i would rather be run over by a train first.

There are just some things you know you have to do and you take them in your stride. The more positive and sure you are about stopping, the easier it will be.
