Lexapro And Mood Swings

Updated April 6, 2018

I have been on Lexapro 10mg for about a month and half. I felt great for a few weeks in that time but then about a week ago I started having mood swings. I thought I was just having a bad day, but it goes on ever day now. One minute, I'm fine and the next I'm not. I'm not sure if maybe I should go to 15mg? I am female, about 115 pounds.

Hi L,

Sorry to hear about your situation. According to NIH.gov, the following symptoms are listed as side effects of Lexapro (Escitalopram):

- Confusion
- Thoughts of hurting yourself or others, unusual behavior
- Feeling more excited or energetic than usual, racing thoughts

Source: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0010165

If your doctor is in agreement, perhaps a dosage change may be in order. However, taking a higher dosage can also increase the odds and severity of certain side effects; so that's just something to take into consideration going from 10mg to 15mg.

I hope this helps!
